This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

This is a great car that goes anywhere in comfort and gets you back safely. Its small and agile, but large enough to haul anything for a house or cabin. In a year of driving many miles the only thing its needed is oil changes.

I have leased two Grand Cherokees and two Libertys (2002 and 2005). Love this little frog, as my husband calls it. Just as plush and much better pickup than my Grand Cherokee that was an 8 cylinder. Fun to drive, easy to park. Comfortable leather seats. Great doodads. Plush, sporty, rides like a car but has lots of room for hauling plants, boxes, etc. when you put down the back seats that fold down very easily. I have had no problems with either of my Libertys. I love it. "My little Beep."

It is a reliable and dependable vehicle. The seating is comfortable and has a pleasing interior design. I am very disappointed with window switch location. Some better human engineering is required in arrangement of these switches.

I got this new 2005 Jeep Liberty for my wife. Compared it against some other mid-size SUVs and this is the best I could find for her. Easy and fun to drive (as a matter of fact I love driving it). Exceptional off-road capabilities. Its much more car than I expected. Its small, so dont expect to fit 7 people in it. But if you are looking for a 2 adult (+ 2 children) car, this is a great option.

Best fuel economy in a 4WD in the US. Diesel has great power all the way to 11,000 ft. elevations on mountain passes. Best 4WD Ive ever owned for winter driving. Diesel performs marvelously off-road. Without serious suspension modification (at least a 2.5"-3.0" lift) and larger tires (245/75R 16 would be ideal), though, it lacks adequate ground clearance for anything but mild off-highway use. A Subaru Forester has much better ground clearance. As noted the factory tires are crap. EGR valve failures are a common problem, though mine have lasted pretty well. Fuel economy ranges from 16 mpg in dead winter starts and stops to 31-32 mpg on highway at speeds 65 mph or less.

I have driven trucks all my life not really a car person. I have had a Ford Bronco and a Ford Explorer, I love 4 wheel drive and I use it. Like a vehicle that can hold its own and so far this Jeep Liberty has done it all. It can hang the interstate with the comfort and smoothness of a car and off-road it is as tough as a Bronco. It makes a nice safe ride for when I have my grandchildren in it and they love the look. The real test for me was my granddaughter just got her learner’s permit and loves to drive this Liberty and I feel very safe because of the Liberty’s safety features. So far this grandmother loves it. It is so brand new but the more I drive it the more I love it.

My Jeep is a fun vehicle with economy acceptable at 18 to 22. I like the tight feel of construction and maneuverability It is not a road car but is enjoyable even on long trips. I would buy another one but I do not think that I will ever need one Go Jeep!

Bought it to tow behind RV. Very happy with the quality and comfort. I liked the no hassle buying; all I had to do was pick out the color and options. It has plenty of power and is fun to drive. Our other car is a E320 Mercedes wagon and it is getting lonely just sitting is the garage while we drive this one.

This truck has reaffirmed my faith in diesels. The power and towing capability is reasonable and all with decent mileage. DCX needs to expand the use of diesels in their product line. With fuel prices as they are this would be a great service to the customer and the country.

  • Good Off Road Jeep - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Bought the Liberty used. After fixing a recall which left me stranded the first week I owned it, the Jeep has provided trouble free driving over 100 miles per day in the blazing heat of the Mojave Desert. The turning radius is TOPS on any off-road vehicle I have ever driven, you can turn this thing on its own radius, can make sharper turns than my wifes Toyota Corolla. If the seats provided more support for long trips, the interior appointed with more of a well built feel and if it was not so bad on gas, I would drive it forever.
