Overview & Reviews
An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.
- Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
- Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

Better than Expected - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Henry - June 22 - 10:40 pmwanted to get the diesel, but couldnt since I live in New York. I strongly believe gas mileage should be improved; other than that the truck is a blast to drive, love the stereo and the leather interior, but would have picked a different color for the interior, if it would have been available.

Jeep Liberty with a nifty diesel - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By nursecrd - April 17 - 9:53 amSpecial ordered this Jeep. I have been quite pleased with this car in spite of some quirkiness. Love the 2.8 L turbo diesel. It is a bit noisy but the torque is phenomenal. This little guy is no slouch on the road. Great fuel economy, 30 - 31 MPG (calculated) when kept under 65 MPH. Fairly good reliability. Torque converter is weak link in the drive train and I am on #3. Engine requires a bit more care than the gas version but it is an easy engine to maintain. Some aftermarket engine parts available (filters) but all else you have get at the dealer and they are not cheap. Adequate long distance road car but very good off road and in heavy snow.

Best vehicle I have ever owned! - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Judy - April 13 - 10:10 amMy Jeep Liberty 4x4 is the best thing I have ever bought. I love the idea that if I get stuck in traffic and I dont have time to wait I can just cut through the grassy/swampy median. I would say if you are not sure of what kind of vehicle you should go check out the Jeep Liberty. It is also not true about it being a gas hog, it is a V-6 not a 4-cylinder. So dont expect it to get gas mileage like a 4-cylinder. It out preforms any 4-cylinder you could ever drive. I think the Jeep Liberty is top in its Class!

New Renegade Convert - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Sweeney6 - April 7 - 10:06 amI was going from a MINI Cooper S to an SUV. This was not going to be an easy transition but I feel like I have upgraded in lots of ways. I like the color (Light Khaki) and the interior is functional and very comfortable. Will be used for the daily 30 mile commute and getting out of the snow 30 miles from civilization. Doesnt seem too gas hungry for a real 4WD.

Gotta love it. - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Michael Bender - April 4 - 12:16 pmThis is my second Liberty. The 2002 had the gas engine and averaged 18-19 on the highway at best. This diesel version approaches 30mpg at 58-65 mph. I love the tight turning radius which makes parking a breeze and the fact it is much more nimble than the larger Jeep Grand Cherokee. It has proved very capable of pulling a heavy trailer and pushing through snow. We are very happy with it. The diesel is barely audible with the radio or CD player on and never smells like a Greyhound bus.

JEEP LIBERTY 2005 LIMITED - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By GLORIA PATTERSON - March 27 - 9:56 pmI originally purchased the Liberty after having rented one for a family trip. We are average or better in height and found the leg room and comfort was supportive of our individual body makeups. My children enjoyed the long ride and never complained of being tired even though the ride was very long. The color and exterior look is attractive and easy to maintain. I love the material and design of the wheel moldings. I hand wash my Jeep rather than utilizing an automatic car wash facility. I enjoy the size and durability of the exterior design. It has been very dependable even in adverse driving conditions. The overall ride is smooth and the vehicle itself is easy and enjoyable to drive.

Tough comfort - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Bruiser - February 22 - 3:53 amBought this for my wife. Cant wait until it gets 75k on it so I can use it for outdoor stuff. Im 62", 225# but the drivers seat and area are much more spacious and comfortable than the Ford Explorer we had. We live in a remote area with bad roads so the off road capability, plus the option of being in rwd, awd, 4wd, or 4wd low was a plus. Engine has a lot of zip. Rides a little rough, but not as much as I expected.
