Overview & Reviews
Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.
Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

Jeep Liberty is Great - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By jwq13 - January 21 - 10:00 amThe Jeep Liberty is fun to drive and is a practical vehicle. It is small enough to fit in any parking space, yet it is roomy enough to carry many items. The gas mileage could be better, but it is what you would expect in a vehicle that has a high profile. It has excellent acceleration. James

ITS A BUY!! - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By MICROECONOMICS - January 15 - 10:00 amWe just love our new jeep! This truck, is just that, a truck. It feels so strong and rough yet its quick, nimble, and agile. My wife loves the high seat level for a great look of the road ahead, but doesnt have to have such a huge vehicle to move around. Lots of head room and leg room along with enough power to get up and go makes me happy too. Quality in the build is clear, not a bug, rattle or glitch in a year.

Big disappointment - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By JeepDisappointment - January 15 - 10:00 amAfter a month of owning my brand new jeep liberty, I had to take it to the dealership to repair a transmission leak. The car looks good on the outside but was sluggish when driving on an incline and slow in accelerating. I expected to keep my new car for 10 years as I kept my previous car which was not a jeep for 13 years. Needless to say, I am deeply disappointed and would now like to trade my car after owning it for just a month.

Driving is Fun Again - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By priceylane - January 15 - 10:00 amI love my Jeep Liberty experience. It gives you the feeling of being on top of the road and the control of a car. I think the ride is smoother than many SUVs but you still get the feeling your driving something big. It has plenty of room for people or stuff.

Will Never Buy Jeep Again - 2006 Jeep Liberty
By hbfamilyof4 - January 12 - 1:26 amWe have a 2006 Liberty and have had nothing but problems with the windows. First the rear driver side window just slid down one day about 6 months into the lease and never came back up again - we had never even lowered the window once since we got the car. Today, about 18 months into the lease, the drivers window did the same thing. I asked the service manager to inspect the other 2 windows so I dont have to come back 2 more times for the same problem and he said no - they have to break first. Jeep knows about the problem and refuses to issue recall - beware!!!

2005 Jeep CRD Limited - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Krista and Mike - January 8 - 10:00 amExcellent vehicle to own, fun to drive, a real work horse. CRD engine is excellent, but a little noisy; however it is very reliable! Good gas mileage for a SUV. Handles well, with excellent visibility.

jeep liberty sport for towing - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By richard barr - January 5 - 6:03 pmA great vehicle. Comfortable, fast, extremely reliable. Towing capacity of 5000 lbs. -- far above all other small SUVs except the Nissan Xterra, which is $5000 more and less reliable.
