Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

Fun to drive especially with the addition of a Magna Flow Performance Muffler.

  • Danger, Will Robinson! DANGER! - 2004 Jeep Liberty

Bought the 2004 Liberty used in 2007 "ASIS" from our local Jeep dealer after our master certified mechanic did a full inspection and told us it seemed OK. 3 years later, while driving the interstate under 100% perfect driving conditions, I suddenly found myself with no steering (wheel had no effect). The car rolled 3 times then flipped end-over-end, skidded to a halt on its roof. The police wrote it up as a no-fault unknown cause accident. We got a recall notice 2 years later that explained that the problem could cause sudden loss of steering. When we contacted Jeep, they said unless we still had the wreck we were S.O.L. The standard Jeep response was always "We dont care!"

This is a refined, fun-to-drive truck! The small turning radius makes it easy to park and get in/out of other tight spaces. The 210 hp helps us blow past road slugs on the highway. Very comfortable interior. We recommend it highly.

  • Bought one for my wife. - 2002 Jeep Liberty

It was time to by a new car for my wife. We looked at the new liberty. Bought one that same day. The V-6 blew me away. The ride is great. A big selling piont with me was the 5000 pound tow capacity. After 15,000 miles my wife loves it. I have only a few complants with the car. They include: not alot of foot room in the front. My legs feel cramped on long drives. Not alot room to move them around. The seat in relationship with the door armrest is in a odd spot. Overall, I like this car and would drive it every day. That is if I could ever get the key away from my wife.

  • Engine Issues Galore! - 2011 Jeep Liberty

I purchased my Jeep Liberty certified pre-owned. It had roughly 60k miles on it. It now has 105k miles on and my extended 7year/100k mile warranty JUST expired. What a perfect time to need a new engine, right?? The check engine light came on and its throwing a p0303 code (whichever code is for cylinder 2 misfiring). I still owe quite a bit of money on it and these depreciated SO badly that Im in a financial nightmare right now. I mean, why cant I get 150k out of this vehicle? I feel like Ive been ripped off. Im looking at a very large bill to either replace or rebuild the engine and Ive had it for less than 2 years. The crazy thing is that I have truly enjoyed this Jeep and love the look and feel of it. The radio is a piece of junk.. The clock slowly gets behind about a minute every 3 or 4 days. Took to a Jeep dealer and they replaced it. Still does the same thing.. I was really looking forward to possibly upgrading to a Jeep Wrangler unlimited for my next car in a year or two but now it looks like Im either never buying another Jeep or not for a while. Thanks Jeep....

Sharp looking exterior, especially with the 17" wheels. Interior is part luxury with leather and part sporty with aluminum accents.

Perfect for my lifestyle. I drive 30 miles one way to work every day and live on top of a montain with a 1/4 mile driveway straight up. I usually put it in 4 wheel drive to get up the road.

I just purchased a new Jeep Liberty Sport. This is a wonderful vehicle with great maneuverability and handling. The styling on this vehicle is top notch. It seems like the engineers at Jeep knew just where to put all controls, so they are within easy reach. The Jeep is a pleasure to drive and I would highly recommend it.

I love this car. It just makes me feel good whenever I approach it. I havent felt this good about a new vehicle, ever. I like the engine size, no delays when pulling into traffic. The response is great, and the mileage better than most. I would recommend everyone drive a Jeep, but lately, I am noticing more and more already are.
