Overview & Reviews
An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.
- Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
- Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

Love my Jeep! - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Rose - December 15 - 1:03 pmI am 6 tall - adequate head room and leg room (used to drive a Ford Explorer). Feel like I am in a larger SUV - can see above cars ahead. Nice handling. Little bit bumpy on rough road surfaces, but satisfactory or better. Buzzing noise obvious when front windows cracked, but back windows up. Have to open back windows a crack too. All in all, I love my Jeep Liberty and am a very happy owner!

2005 Jeep Renegade 4x4 - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Marc - December 9 - 7:36 pmI bought this because of the incentives at the time - 0.0% financing for 5 years PLUS $2500 rebate. Its early miles still and happily no problems to report. After being stuck in traffic for hours the seat became uncomfortable as most seats do. Drove through thunderstorms very confidently - nice to have security of Selec-Trac AWD. There is less road noise than I expected and braking is adequate considering how heavy it is. All that said, if price were the same, I would go for an Xterra for my specific needs, mostly because of Nissan reliability, but also the more aggressive style and the more powerful engine.

Liberty Limited Diesel in WI - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Roger - December 9 - 3:03 amThe Liberty Diesels handling, design, and fuel economy have been above expectations. Fuel economy dropped off in Wisconsin winter driving, but never failed to start in the bitter cold. During the first week of ownership, mileage hit 29 on highway, otherwise, not unusual to average 24 city. Expect better fuel economy as the engine is broken in. Excellent maneuverability as you would expect from Jeep. Torque on the diesel keeps her steady when hauling uphill. For a diesel, my Liberty provides a quiet ride. Little noisy on warm up and with heavy acceleration, otherwise, passengers sometimes dont realize they are riding in a diesel until told, then marvel at how quiet it runs. Nice ride!

Most Fun to Drive. - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Cassie - November 28 - 10:50 amI have owned Chevy Blazer, GMC Jimmy, and presently own a 2004 Dodge Durango (Hemi--of course). After driving and enjoying them all I must say that this Jeep Liberty is the most fun to drive. It fits into parking spaces that most SUVs wont, and unless you have 4 or more kids, I feel it is the ideal vehicle for women from their 20s all the way though their 40s. The vehicle is functional for the administrative duties on the job, travels well and it looks great when I show up at meetings or when I want to spend a night on the town.

Problems - But Still Happy - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Vince - November 21 - 8:36 amIve owned my Liberty Diesel for ~ 4 months and its needed service twice already. The engine died due to a wiring harness short on day 2 of ownership and it recently developed an intercooler (turbo component) leak requiring service. Nevertheless, Im still pleased. Mileage has been 25+ MPG on the highway, ~ 23 combined city/highway. Towing a 3000 pound boat is absolutely effortless. Im hoping all the bugs are worked out because this Jeep is a blast to drive!

snow - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By betty kashkin - November 21 - 5:03 amWe live in New Jersey; the trip into New York used to be a disaster for us whenever it snowed. Since we leased our Jeep vehicle the trip has been a no brainer, comfortable and easy to get wherever we are going. When our lease is finished, we will lease another one of your Jeeps. Thanks for the ride.

Fun but too small for my growing family! - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Memphis slim - October 28 - 8:23 amIve had no issues with this Jeep. Just routine maintenance and oil changes. Its fun to drive and has good power. Im 65" and the sets are uncomfortable for me. When I ride shotgun, my knees hit the handle/dash area. My wife says the same thing and she is 57". We take long trips (8 hrs) and it drives great but is hvery uncomfortable. Were trading it in since well be having baby #2 soon. This was fine for 1 baby but not 2 kids. Too cramped and therell be no room left when traveling. Also dont spill liquids on the seats b/c the stains will not come out! Ive tried everything and all detail shops say this fabric is hard to clean.

Early review - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Geoff Clayton - October 27 - 11:36 amSo far this diesel is light years ahead of the old style diesels. Now its a matter of computer controls being reliable for the most part. More and more, computers are the platform that control basically well made engines. If the electronics are sound this engine will last longer than I will.

Love 2005 Renegade! - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By snoq - October 19 - 6:36 amIts comfortable to drive on freeway and in the city. The drive is more like a big truck than a passenger car. Stiff and a little bouncy which makes it fun to drive! Its so fun to drive off road! Weve went for off road test drive a couple of times already in Cascades. It drove through sticky cray-like mud, cross the water paddle (about 1ft. deep), drove up the steep gravel/dirt hill EASILY without any problem...all with 4WD High. We havent go to use 4 LO yet...need to be more extreme condition or tarrain to use it. (Maybe after heavy snow in the mountain!)
