Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

  • Jeep Has Built A TRUE WINNER - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Ive had my Liberty for 6 weeks, and have already put 3,800 miles on it. Im extremely impressed with the solid, durable build quality of this Jeep. It has a powerful V6 engine, and it is simply a joy to drive... Its a bit of a gas guzzler, but thats the trade-off for the superior suspension and durablilty. Dont expect a "car-like" drive out of the Liberty. However, I must say that it handles itself quite well when cruising at 80 on my long drive to work... Weve owned Wranglers for a long time, and this is the first "non- Wrangler" Jeep that weve purchased. We couldnt be more pleased. GREAT JOB JEEP !!!

  • Better than Expected - 2005 Jeep Liberty

wanted to get the diesel, but couldnt since I live in New York. I strongly believe gas mileage should be improved; other than that the truck is a blast to drive, love the stereo and the leather interior, but would have picked a different color for the interior, if it would have been available.

  • Fun, but expensive to drive - 2002 Jeep Liberty

Bought it used with 41,000 miles on it. Have had no problems, have not had to have any repairs so far. Very roomy even with full passenger load, but not a lot of cargo space. Handles better than any 4WD we have ever owned, We have taken it places others would not dare go. Just wish it would be better on gas, very low gas mileage for a V6. Tends to get around 16-17 mpg. Other than that would recommend to anyone.

  • Liberty Brakes Danger - 2004 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I brought my third Jeep, a Liberty, in February, 2004. I now have 28,000 miles on it and the rear brake calipers locked and I had to have it fixed somewhere other than the dealer. The wheels were smoking and all they could say is that repairs are only at the dealer. I will never buy another. They just dont care!

  • I would pass if interested in purchasing - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I bought the Jeep new in 2007. Since then I have had the A/C worked on twice. The air would blow out the floor and thats it. I have had the window regulators replaced NINE times. I have a vehicle I get to take home for work and a only drive the Jeep on my days off. Luckily I am still under warranty since I only have 19K miles on it. They finally replaced all window regulators, tracks and glass with new parts Jeep came out with. That was a couple of weeks ago and they havent broke since. I generally have warranty work done everytime I get the oil changed. This is the first and last Jeep vehicle I will ever purchase.

  • Bad Brakes - 2007 Jeep Liberty
    By -

My 07 Liberty is a great vehicle. Window regulator broke too, but they fixed it. Ive had the car since Oct 07 and have 23,000 miles. Took it in for NYS insp. and found I needed new pads and rotors. Mechanic said it shouldnt have done that.Im pretty easy on the brakes and that isnt a lot of miles. Cost me over $300 for just the front brakes. Chrysler should be ashamed for making inferior parts for such a nice vehicle. Talked to several mechanics and they all said the brakes on the Liberty are really bad. I am disappointed in that. The gas mileage isnt that great either. Agree that the window controls shouldnt be in center console.

  • Give Me Jeep Liberty, Or Nothing Else! - 2003 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Ive owned my 2003 Jeep Liberty for a year. What I really like about my jeep is the body styling, the look of the interior. Its got a solid feel to it, which I like very much. It,s got a comfortable ride and Its not too big. My wife didnt want to drive a big SUV. My only fault with the Liberty is the way the rear seats fold down they dontt lay flat. I am very satisfied
