Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

I love my JEEP; the only downfall is the gas mileage. Other than that, I am a JEEP lover.

  • ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! - 2004 Jeep Liberty

I drove my car from Illinois to Massachusetts and the ride was absolutely wonderful! Very comfortable and fun to drive. Cruise control is a wonderful feature, plenty of head and leg room even for someone that is 64". Very spacious in the back especially with car seats. Never had any mechanical problems and I got a ton of compliments on it. The only thing I would change is the gas mileage. City driving in Chicago is a pain and having a v6 tends to be a bit expensive. Over all a great car.

  • the most fun to drive - 2004 Jeep Liberty

I have owned at least 7 SUVs. The 2004 Liberty is the best yet. It is the tightest feeling, solid one Ive owned. It drives great, and handles well. The dealer was the greatest, he made buying it a pleasure.

  • Fun, Fun, Fun - 2004 Jeep Liberty

I bought my Liberty in 05 with 6,000 miles on the odometer. I now have 190,000 miles and she is running strong. I have had to do some minor maintenance, but I have driven her all over the country and frankly done so at high speeds. My friends call the car the silver bullet because I have a lead foot. The car has never left me stranded and is very fun to drive. Dropping the back seats is a breeze and I can fit tons of luggage or furniture it it. I am now looking for a newer model and hoping I love it like I love this little Liberty. If I didnt have to travel, I would keep it to drive around town because I love it so much!

  • Great invention from Jeep - 2002 Jeep Liberty

The Jeep liberty is really nice. I bought it for the off roading features but it can hardly handle anything. I buried mine on a two track in maybe a half foot of water. The four wheel drive shaft is not very strong. I think Jeep came out with this vehicle so everyone can own a Jeep. I love this vehicle cause of two main reasons 1. Easy to drive 2. Very reliable. The four wheel drive got me out of countless puddles. I do not suggest this vehicle for off roading though.

  • This car is SMOOTH - 2002 Jeep Liberty

This car is great when it comes to climbing hills and taking bumps! It drives so smoothly! I was completely taken away when I test drove this car and I love it! The only MAJOR problem I have with it is it SUCKS GAS!!!! Thats all though, everything else is awesome!

  • Wow is this thing bad in the snow - 2008 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Wow this thing is terrible in the snow. It feels like the back end is going to slide out at any time even when going straight. The steering and road feel inspire no confidence. The factory tires are awful, I feel bad for Jeep that it has come to this, you have to wonder what the future of the brand is. This truly is a bad SUV. There are so many better trucks out there. If you buy one immediately get new tires, the stock Goodyears are dangerous. By the way ever time the rear end slid out no traction control engaged, ever.
