Overview & Reviews
Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.
Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

Jeep :) - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By Art Perez - September 8 - 10:00 amI didnt think much about Jeep when i first started to look for a smaller SUV. However, after testing a few others, I went to a Jeep dealer, and drove off the that day with my new Laredo. Two years later, I went to check out the Jeep liberty. Wow.. what a huge differance from my other Jeep, so i traded in my Jeep and all I really love to drive these days. I just bought a Hummer(H2) but I prefer my Jeep for around town use.

I LOVE this vehicle!! - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By NancyHB - September 8 - 10:00 amIt has everything you could possibly want in a vehicle. I feel safe in it. The doors lock automatically, and it has power features that I enjoy. I like not having to bend down to get in, nor having to make a lot of effort when taking items out of the back.

By HunterinDallas - September 8 - 10:00 amThis my first Jeep and it rides like a top and is fun to drive around town. It has alot more pickup and go in its performance than I thought. It was the best small SUV that I test drove.

awesome little truck! - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By muttz8 - September 8 - 10:00 amLOVE the renegade liberty(style, performance)!! cant think of another suv in its class as cool.. just drove to los angeles from san francisco and for some reason (could it be the regular grade fuel <87>?) going through the mountains on hwy 5, our jeep didnt want to go past 65 miles on the incline... other cars were passing us... that was odd, but I still love my jeep..

One Year Later - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By RayF - September 8 - 10:00 amExcellent vehichle. Performs as advertised. Comfortable on long trips, powerful and quiet. Build quality is excellent and have had no problems whatsoever. Only disappointment is fuel mileage but this is a heavy rough service vehicle so this can be understood. Mileage is getting better as vehicle ages.

Liberty in a Liberty - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By arsnakey - September 8 - 10:00 amMy Jeep Liberty is positively the most fun vehicle Ive ever owned. I drive it all over AZ, CO, & Utah, 23,000 miles in its first year. Im not afraid to go anywhere except where the brush may scratch the paint. I highly recommend it for those who need more interrior room than the Wrangler.

Love my Liberty - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By tooswt - September 8 - 10:00 amBought my Liberty in Feb. 2003. Drove it off the lot right into a blizzard with no exaggeration. It handled like it was on dry road without using the 4wd. Had to use the 4wd once while in Michigan. Shift on the fly, smooth as could be. As fun to drive as a sports car and if I have to do a U turn has a short tight turning ratio.Love it so much I gave it a name...Abraham
