Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

  • Ill never buy another Chrysler - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I like most people have had nothing but problems with the windows. I have had to replace all the window regulators and now I have had problems with the sun roof. I have had the torque converter worked on as well as the tranny. The biggest problem now though is the air conditioning only works when it feels like it and no one can tell me what the problem is. And of course I am out of warranty! I only have 47,000 miles on this thing! Oh and to add to all that the gas mileage stinks! I average around 15-16 mpg. Thats only a little better than the husbands 1991 Chevy 4x4!

The jeep liberty is the best buy for the money. Its 210 hp V6 can not be topped by any SUV in its class. I plan to keep my liberty until it just wont go anymore, than ill buy a new one.

my jeep liberty has been a pretty good vehicle. the biggest concern i have had with the suv is that the front brakes make a squeaking and a metal grinding sound. i took it to the dealership & they told me that it was normal for a new car??

  • winter security vehicle - 2002 Jeep Liberty

The Jeep is a wonderful vehicle to have in winter; most times if you go off the road when slippery, put it in low range and get back on while cars are gonna sit and wait for a tow-truck. The Jeep gives me a feeling of safety when the weather is bad, as I can pull out of my driveway, with a foot of snow on the ground, in 4 wheel drive, and not spin a wheel. While doing this, my radio, with an awesome sound keeps me smiling!

The Jeep liberty is fun to drive and is reliable, Im a little disappointed with the gas mileage and the positioning of the power window buttons. It has a sporty look and handles well on snow and ice.

I did a lot of research before purchasing. My previous experience with Jeep vehicles helped in my decision. The 6 speed manual make the Liberty extremely fun to drive and can tow my toys.

  • Windows are horrible! - 2006 Jeep Liberty

The window issue definitely outweigh any good that the car has! I bought the car after having so many issues with a Chrysler Sebring and even asked the dealer about any problems this vehicle might have. It is clear I was not told the total truth. I will be taking my car in again for window repairs. This makes #4!

Some folks like to smoothly glide over small road irregularities without feeling them. The Renegades stiff suspension lets you feel these, but when it comes to potholes, railroad tracks, etc., it handles these like they are nothing. I LOVE going over parking lot speed bumps ! Fun to drive, very solid feel. I dont get the body-flexing feeling of others like the Ford Escape. Comfortable, high ride. Going down a dirt road regularly...dont hear near as many stones hitting the vehicle bottom. And a really macho look.

  • Best choice for the money - 2012 Jeep Liberty

This vehicle is the best choice for people who are on a budget, actually need a 4x4, towing and have children. Edmunds is crazy to say otherwise. I wonder sometimes where these guys live and if they have a budget. There is no other vehicle in this class, at this price that even comes close. We just traded our 2008 Liberty in on a 2012 because they were selling them so cheap. We got a very well equiped (4x4, V6, towing package, sunroof) Liberty for $23,700. That was the dealer price folks, not with anything down or traded. We were actually upside down on our trade but it was worth trading because it lowered our payment $50 a month.
