Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

Great Suspension. Fun to Drive. A real eye catcher

  • Best Purchase I have ever made - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I bought this car after conducting extensive research (internet and actual test drives) on all of the vehicles in its class and immediately fell in love with it. The motor pulls strongly and the suspension travel makes you feel carefree in a world of bad potholes and poorly maintained roads. It performs great in the snow and in the mud, I found out the day after I bought it and now find any excuse I can to go off the beaten track. The interior is spacious and very nicely apoointed. On long drives (over 4 hours) the seats remain comfortable and the cabin is unconfining. The controls are easily reached and intelligently laid out.

  • Best Midsize 4wd - 2002 Jeep Liberty

Just picked up my Bright silver Jeep Liberty Sport(cherokee in Australia) 2 weeks ago. I absolutely love it! Power, comfort and great 4x4 setup. Destroys ravs, crv, tribute, escape by a mile. If youre looking for a Mid size 4wd that can take the punishement, tow a 1500kg boat like a piece of cake and handle youre day to day duties with ease then look no further.

I absolutely love my jeep liberty. its comfortable, it drives well, and it is fun to drive. the only complaint i would have to make is that it uses a whole lot of gas.

  • Better than I expected - 2002 Jeep Liberty

I previously owned a CJ7 and it was probably the most unreliable vehicle Ive ever come in contact with. That was then, this is now, and what a difference! I looked at the Toyota RAV4 but it is underpowered. Daimler/Chrysler has really taken Jeep quality to the next level. Id highly recommend this vehicle for anyone thinking of a small to mid-size SUV. It truely is the only one in its class that you can take off road!

We have taken it skiing and it handled very well in the snow (4WD). We also tow a boat and found that it towed the boat so well, I had to keep checking to see if it was still behind us. Didnt effect the ride at all.

I bought this vehicle and it only has about 3,000 miles on it right now. This is an awesome vehicle for offroading! I bought this vehicle stock with power sunroof and the skid plate group. I will have to say that I am a proud Jeep owner, and I probably will never buy anything except Jeep in the future. I have been on several jeep trails already and the vehicle has handled awesome on all of them. If your looking for something a little more convenient and comfortable, but has the true off road capability this is definitely the vehicle! Also, the 4x4 selec drive is pretty awesome. I have never drove a better 4 wheel drive system ever!!

  • Poor engineering - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Vehicle is less than a year old with 11,000 miles. We drove it with utmost care, and now have to have major repairs. Oil is foamy, loss of coolant, gurgling sound while driving. Can you say - blown head gasket, cracked head or both?

  • Seems Good - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I bought my Liberty 4 months ago and I put about 8000 miles on it so far. I have not had any trouble with the Jeep. The seats are horrible at getting stained, even water will leave noticible stains. Its not a luxury ride, somewhat rough seats while driving. I havent had any trouble with the windows (knock on wood). The only maintenence I have done is oil changes.
