Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

Now have 8,800 miles on CRD and I am averaging 26.8 mpg on trips at 65-70 mph. I do get almost 500 miles to a tank of fuel. Test drove the 3.7L gas engine and didnt care for the feel. The CRD is fun to drive and has loads of torque for highway cruising. Buy the CRD; the diesel is fun and gets the MPG that they advertise. Diesels require break in of several thousands of miles to get best MPG.

I too am shocked at all the bad reviews. I have had my Jeep Liberty since February 2006 and it has been totally great. The only 1 problem I have had is the back drivers side window fell and I had a friend lock it in place and needless to see other than it is locked in place that is the only thing I have had go wrong with this car. I have driven this vehicle over 65,000 miles and all I have done is change the oil and 1 set of tires. The brakes are original and this car is awesome. I look forward to driving this car for the next 65,000 miles...

S far so good. Wife cant log enough miles. Interior very roomy for small vehicle. Ride a lot smoother than expected and tinted windows a must. Only complaint to date is fuel mileage.

I couldnt wait to get my Jeep Liberty and I loved it for the 1st few months. Then I started seeing little things here and there and now I would love to get rid of it!1st let me sayit is a very bumpy ride. When youre the driver you really do not notice it but look out if your the passenger, now I know why all the hand rails. It is terrible! I have a car seat in the back and I feel bad for my son getting bounced around all the time! 2ndly the trunk area is very small.. Can barley fit my familys luggage for vacation and I do not over pack. also, the back seat is pretty small, your knees rub on the back of the front seats. And I will never get used to the window controlls being in the middle.

Well I think it is a nice vehicle so far. Its just hard to get over the 14.5 mpg its getting. And thats driving it like a gentle baby. Hate to see how bad it would be if I were heavy footed.

I have 1,200 miles on my 04Liberty Ltd. I love it!! I traded my 97 Jeep GC in. Reliability was very good, excellent offroad capability. I expect the same from the Liberty. I was looking to keep the price under 28-30 k.Leather heated seats,sunroof,6-disc cd chgr and more for $28,310, and got it under invice. Fit and finish- interior is excellent. Very solid feel.I looked at other small suvs in this class, for what you get for the money. This is it! Do your homework and check around. If you are looking for something small to midsize, and offroad capability. Take a good look at the Jeep Liberty.

Bought my Liberty on 12/17/02, have had absolutely no problems at all. 23500 miles in almost two years, and only time it was in for service was for oil change and 2 recalls (minor). Very durable was rearended about 2 weeks ago and dent or even scratch. Very satisfied with everything all around and love the security and comfort provided by the waranty.

  • Whats up with the windows? - 2007 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Purchased my 2007 Jeep Liberty in late 2006. I have had EVERY one of the window regulators replaced! Initialy they we all covered by the warranty. 2 days ago my rear drivers window regulator went AGAIN. That makes 5 windows needing repair in 3 1/2 years. This time I have 40,000 miles and the dealer said it is not covered by warranty. I have been trying to get Chrysler to fix it for fee as I have NEVER had a car with window issues like this. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I like the comfort and ride I get with my 2005 Jeep Liberty. I enjoy the neat tech console and the premium radio with Sirius satellite. Overall, it is a fun car to drive.

Right off of the sales lot the head lights low beams were not working. Its been back at the service dept for 2 days now and waiting for a new "Body Control Module" computer. The dealer gave us a "loaner" Liberty to drive till we get our car back. Other than that it seems to be a great car and very fun to drive.
