Overview & Reviews
Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.
Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

I love my Jeep but there are a few character flaws - 2008 Jeep Liberty
By drivenlp - August 20 - 7:14 amI actually built my Liberty up with a 3 inch lift kit, skid plates etc. and I believe it improved the exterior stance of the vehicle. Jeeps can get through anything (with the right tires, I highly recommend the BFGoodrich All Terrains) The interior is comfortable and there is A LOT of neat storage spaces, fold flat seats including the passenger seat. I have not had one mechanical problem. Very tight turning radius. What I dont like: I bought the skyslider and it is awesome for going to the beach etc, but it leaks water into my headliner which is now stained and starting to smell. Also this causes quite a bit of wind noise. I believe they fixed in 2009 a bit.

Get Home Safe - 2010 Jeep Liberty
By Michael J - August 19 - 10:16 amI bought this vehicle in January of this year, it wasnt my first choice but it was the right choice. I went back and forth of this vehicle because I do a lot of driving and the fuel economy wasnt great I have driven Subarus prior to my Jeep because they blend fuel economy with AWD safety, but a month after I bought the Jeep me and a few friends went up to the mountains on a ski trip for the weekend and got caught in a pretty bad blizzard with more then a foot of snow on the ground already cars were starting to pull to the side of the road or rather getting stuck on the way to the side of the road. My Jeep plowed through the snow with little effort. I am a Jeep owner for life now

Skyslide Help - 2008 Jeep Liberty
By Scott Garmon - August 18 - 10:43 amI bought this truck for long business travel and the awesome skyslide top. I love my Jeep. However, the wind noise is unbearable. It now "whistles" at 20mph. If your looking to buy wait for the next generation of the Skyslide roof. I love Jeep and would love to see this fixed soon.

Liberty Sport - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Liberty Sport - August 18 - 3:46 amBought Liberty for my wife. Has been great and fun to drive. She Loves it. V6 got good get up and go. Havent had to use 4x4 yet. Waiting for it to snow. :) We pull our boat without a problem. Has a noise from one of the back seats but other than that good SUV. Gas could be better but not gonna gripe.

Gas Mileage Stinks - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By John1953 - August 15 - 2:00 amI find the transmission shifting from 1st to 2nd very hard. Then when coming to a stop it doesnt down shift back to 1st until about 4 seconds after I stop. The dealer claims its just learning my driving style & when it learns it ... this will stop??? I have owned V-8s that get better gas mileage. I find 14mpg in the city as being unacceptable from such a small 3.7L engine.

Jeep-Chrysler does not care - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Brad Calgary alberta - August 11 - 10:16 pmI was originally impressed with the vehicles fuel mileage and reliability. Then came the first recall to replace the lower ball joints, which was fine, at the same time the torque converter was replaced. This occurred at 12,000 miles, since then the liberty has been back in the shop 4 times, due to the transmission shifting rough, if at all. Each time the shop has failed to find a problem, which is convenient since it is still on warranty. The other major problem, was brake failure. It took taking back to the dealer 3 times before the problem was addressed. And the only reason it was fixed was because the service tech was almost in an accident due to no brakes.

A True Jeep... - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By Blkpwdr - August 10 - 10:00 amI love it! Jeep is an acquired taste. If you arent a Jeep-lover, dont buy it! Best off-road performance Ive seen in its class. Handling is better than I expected on- road.

My Reveiw - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By chilly2006 - August 10 - 2:00 amThis is a fun car to drive. It is easy to handle and has great control. My only complants are the noise engine and small fuel tank. At all times i fill safe and for a SUV it has great visibility.
