An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

- Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

Theres Only One - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Seth - January 28 - 4:10 amWithout doubt or hesitation the most fun Ive had in any vehicle Ive owned in 25 years. This is a REAL off-road vehicle not a tall car with 4WD. The perfect combination of on-road manners and off-road go-anywhere ability. A bit thirsty but this is a tough, solidly built truck. Ive driven past half a dozen broken GMC and Ford vehicles on trails and Im sure they get worse mileage. This truck has taken some of the toughest trails in N. America (Moab for instance). Nearly all the capability of a Wrangler with twice the comfort!

Patriot Blue Mass Jeep Limited - 2005 Jeep Liberty

It has been very reliable with only one issue; a resetting of the automatic tire pressure gauge. It is a lot of fun to drive, very comfortable on and off the road, and I really enjoy the comforts, i.e. leather heated seats, Sirius radio, etc. The cargo room is perfect, and I like how the seats go down with ease. I highly recommend this American built vehicle!

The CRD Liberty - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Bobs - January 18 - 7:16 pmJust purchased the new CRD Liberty and love it! The diesel is a little bit noisier than my VW TDI, but it runs great. First 100 mile trip, youll notice the diesel is only turning 1,800 rpm at 70 miles an hour in overdrive, yet has so much torque, that it pulls cleanly without downshifting. Gas mileage is already working out to be 25-27 MPG, and comfort and quality of the interior are first rate. We also live up a steep gravel road, and this baby climbs like theres no tomorrow. The perfect match--diesel torque and economy with Jeeps great off road abilitys.

By FrankW - January 6 - 10:06 pmTodays diesels are nothing like yesteryear. They are fast, clean, quiet and efficient. I average 27 mpg with my mostly highway driving. Acceleration can give you *whiplash* About half of the local service stations sell diesel fuel and there is never a line to get at the pump. Im extremely happy about switching to diesel. Hybrids are good if you live in the city with stop and go traffic. For suburbanites, diesel is the smart thing to do. Hey -- if worse ever came to worse, I could burn old french fry oil. :-)
