This Year's Model Updates:

All 2004 Jeep Libertys now feature a passenger-side grab handle and a power accessory delay feature, while Renegade models get additional rock rail protection and black accent body side moldings. New options include UConnect, Chrysler's hands-free in-vehicle communication system, a tire-pressure monitoring system and a cargo organizer. Safety is enhanced thanks to a system that unlocks doors, illuminates interior courtesy lights and shuts off the fuel pump after airbag deployment. A new trim -- the Jeep Liberty Columbia Edition -- has been introduced, offering 16-inch graphite-painted aluminum wheels; graphite-painted fascias and body moldings; body-colored fender flares; a sun roof; fog lamps; and Columbia badging.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

  • I will continue to buy a Jeep Vehicle - 2004 Jeep Liberty

I love my jeep. It is a great family suv. I replaced the goodyear tires that were on it when i bought it, and put Mastercraft Courser A/T2 on it, and my wife and I have never really had to use the 4wd on it. Does job in the mud. Trans, Motor, Drivetrain heavy duty built. A oil change gets done every 3000 miles. The vehicle only had 34000 miles on it when i bought it in April 2008. MPGs good, could be better. I would absolutely recommend this vehicle to anyone, especially if you want a jeep that handles well, rugged 4wd. I do wash it every weekend, and wax it twice a month, and it still looks like new.

We have had our Jeep Liberty Renegade about a week now and both my wife and I love it. It has lots of power and is real fun to drive. The interior is well configured and has plenty of room. In researching this vehicle before I bought it, there were some complaints about the transmission hump getting in the way of the drivers legroom, we dont have any problems, (so Far)

We also own a Nissan 300Z -- and ten grandchildren plus one 93-year-old mother. They couldnt fit in the Zs back seat. So we shopped for a small SUV and liked the looks and layout of the Liberty. Now kids seats and grannys tush fit comfortably. The Liberty is fun to drive, even with a 300Z as competition. Of course the Jeep doesnt corner or accelerate like a lowslung rear-wheeler, but the autodrive is acceptably swift on the mid-range uptake. Has a surprisingly tight turning circle. We like sitting up high and seeing things we never saw before (like over highway fences). Ride not as jiggly, fuel economy somewhat better than described.

  • 2004 Limited Transmission Slipping - 2004 Jeep Liberty

On a cold start, the Jeep will slip going into reverse. I was advised that a software update was needed to correct the problem. I did that and it still slips. It slips 4 out of 5 mornings, yet the dealerships say they cannot duplicate the problem. I am concerned that this is going to cause long-term problems and am considering going the lemon route as it has been in shop three times and is not fixed yet. Ive also been told this is normal for Jeep Liberties, yet Ive not found another Jeep owner who has slow to engage/slip on a cold start. Other than that, I love it. Looks great, rides great, and is fun. The price was right, too!

  • Wife loves it! - 2004 Jeep Liberty

My wife bought this Jeep for work. She love its quickness, handling, surprisingly decent gas mileage for a v6 its and maneuverability (turn radius). I would not recommend it for extremely long trips due to the short wheel base, keep trips to 100 miles or less. It has had a few recalls which our local dealership has been very quick at responding to. There is a little rust bubbling under the paint at the pop up Glass at rear door just under the third brake lite at the welding seam. Its covered again by jeeps 5 year 100,000 mile warranty. Wife says she will always own a Jeep.

  • Great Jeep - 2004 Jeep Liberty

One of the main things that sold me on the Jeep Liberty over other similar vehicles was the fit & finish and build quality. No rattles, squeaks, or anything. Very solidly built. More so than many higher priced cars. It is also a great buy as it has many standard features, a powerful 3.7L engine which actually sounds like it has power, and a nice look.

  • Love it so far - 2004 Jeep Liberty

Bought it back in June and I really like it so far. My only complaint is the positioning of the sun visors. Since the roof has padding, the visors dont sit up against the windsheild in a manner that allows taller people to see properly. This means that to use them I have to point them at me. Aside from that, I really like the vehicle a lot. I live in a mountainous area and am up on mountain dirt roads on a somewhat regular basis. I have no problems with any of it. The V6 provides enough pick up to get up to highway speeds without gunning the engine, and the engine is powerful enough to take you almost anywhere.
