This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

  • Fun Machine - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Great looks and fun to drive! I was really impressed with the way this compact SUV handles. It might be a little stiff in the suspension for some people, but it feels solid. The doors and hatch close easy. Fit and finish is great and it is a beauty. I have the Atlantic Blue color with a sun roof. This Liberty is one of the best cars I have owned. Road clearance is great without using a ladder to get into the drivers seat. The tires have an aggressive tread without producing the typical tire noise. A "Off road" beauty with comfort and style. Although I am biased, I am a owner!

I had been wanting a Jeep Liberty since they first debuted. I can remember the first time I saw one on the road. I was like...."Wow." So it was really the exterior appearance that struck me. The front end is so gorgeous. Especially on the new ones with the chrome grille. (Mine is a 2005 Limited.) It runs well, accelerates well, and you feel safe travelling on the interstate at high speeds, unlike on some other smaller SUVs, where you feel like you are all over the road. I had a 2000 Chevy Tracker, and to go from that to this Liberty is a total improvement. It handles well. I havent had a chance to test out the 4 WD extenxively yet, or operate in the snow.

  • Dont Buy a Jeep Liberty!! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

We have had numerous major mechanical breakdowns on our Jeep Liberty resulting in thousands of dollars in repairs. Just had to have the transmission fixed for almost $3000. Check it out, it happens all the time on these vehicles. Dont buy one!!

Ive only put a thousand miles on it so far, but the fuel mileage has been great. The 3 fill-up average is 25 MPG+, which includes town and highway driving. Ive had it off-road a couple of times and it performed as well as my old CJ7.

  • Not a good choice - 2005 Jeep Liberty

We bought our 2005 Liberty new. Also purchasing the 5 year warranty which exp Feb 2010. Last week (Dec 2010) it started acting up so we took it into the dealer. Bad head gasket, takes $1500.00 to fix. While tearing it down they found a timing belt guide broken and had to buy the entire kit from Mopar for $534 additional. We dont have it back yet but a 90,000 mile vehicle should not be requiring a $2500.00 repair. It is the last Jeep/Dodge we will buy. We are looking again soon but will probably look towards a Toyota.

  • Lousy customer service - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Dealer was unsympathetic to my plight. EGR valve and engine light. everyone had same problem with the Jeep CRD but the guys at the dealership acted like there was no problem. Dealer had jeep for a week before it was fixed. no loaner car. Jeep customer service was terrible. You roll the dice if you get the CRD. Glow plugs had to be replaced at 20,000 miles. Brakes wear out quickly just normal driving conditions. Jeep did not get behind the Liberty CRD.

I am a Jeep man from way WAAAAY Back, and the Liberty is the best ever!. I have owned two CJ5s, a Grand Cherokee and currently own a 1972 CJ5.

  • Not a car-like SUV - 2005 Jeep Liberty
    By -

What a great Jeep vehicle. Its definitely not a boring car-like SUV that gets stuck in the middle of a mud pool. This thing will go anywhere. Its more like a Jeep, instead of a car. And thats why I bought it. If you would like a comfy SUV with smooth suspension and luxurious finish, this is not the car for you. This is a sturdy car, for people to go play off-road first, and bring the groceries back later.

  • Awesome Ride! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I LOVE this car! I wanted something that wasnt too "soccer momish" and this is PERFECT! Handles very much like a truck, but that was also what I wanted.

The vehicle drives great, its compact size makes manuevering in and out small spaces easy. The 2005 interior and road handling have improved from previous models and the ride is not as bumpy. The passenger and rear seats are very stiff and could use some extra seat length along with extra padding for comfort.
