This Year's Model Updates:

All 2004 Jeep Libertys now feature a passenger-side grab handle and a power accessory delay feature, while Renegade models get additional rock rail protection and black accent body side moldings. New options include UConnect, Chrysler's hands-free in-vehicle communication system, a tire-pressure monitoring system and a cargo organizer. Safety is enhanced thanks to a system that unlocks doors, illuminates interior courtesy lights and shuts off the fuel pump after airbag deployment. A new trim -- the Jeep Liberty Columbia Edition -- has been introduced, offering 16-inch graphite-painted aluminum wheels; graphite-painted fascias and body moldings; body-colored fender flares; a sun roof; fog lamps; and Columbia badging.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

Bought my Liberty on 12/17/02, have had absolutely no problems at all. 23500 miles in almost two years, and only time it was in for service was for oil change and 2 recalls (minor). Very durable was rearended about 2 weeks ago and dent or even scratch. Very satisfied with everything all around and love the security and comfort provided by the waranty.

All I can say is that this vehicle was a splendid surprise. I went from 95 Cirrus to a 98 Astro (Great) to this cute little Liberty. I bought it used with 4000 miles. It immediately had some serious vibration and lurching (it was fine on test drive) and took it back the first day and they gave me a nice loaner and promised to resolve it in a timely manner. They showed me what they replaced and why (all brake associated). They were professional, made sure I had my registration plates (no paper tag!), full tank, and a letter of apology for the problem with a coupon for free oil changes. OUTSTANDING. Factory defect on the bumper, repaired with new bumper and paint.

I feel like alot of people get an SUV to just have one- If you watch Ford Commercials they show Explorers in the middle of the city- please thats not an SUV- The Liberty is a great OUTDOOR vehicle. Sure its great in the city- but its also nice when the weather is far from great, or the roads are slick.

The Liberty handles well in city traffic, and is competent in the sand dunes and mud holes. The 04 Liberty does preform better than our Cherokees. We cant wait to try it in the snow and ice. The 2nd day we had the Liberty I tried to stick it in the mud, all I got stuck with was dirty jeep.

Got it new. After almost 6 years and 80000 miles I still love this thing. Its a "trucklet", not a flimsy crossover and its the best Jeep Ive had out of 2 CJs and a Grand Cherokee. Ive replaced the crank position sensor, the crappy Goodyear tires, air filter, brakes and heater fan switch. I change the oil at 5000 miles and have never touched the front end. I wash it by hand regularly and wax it twice a year. It still looks, works and feels like new. It has part time 4WD, 3.73 axle with Trac Loc and since I put mud/snow tires on it, I hardly ever need 4WD, although my highway MPG dropped from 22 to 20. Its a cute, nimble, tough, fun little beast and I intend to drive into the ground.

  • Improvements Needed - 2004 Jeep Liberty

I find that the Jeep Liberty is a solid reliable vehicle. Fit & finish is of high quality. Excellent driving manners, with plenty of power. The 3.7 engine performs beautifully. However the drawback to the Liberty is that the driver seat doesnt have enough cushion. The interior lighting is very poor. Engine can be loud when you accelerate. Its a Jeep, and I mean it does have a rough side to it. I have to say in the snow there is no other vehicle I would rather be in. Its a blast to drive when snow starts to fly. Would I purchase another Jeep? I would consider it. I would look at the fuel consumption to determine if it would be worth my while. Aside from that I would say yes, Im am pleased with it.

I bought my Liberty in 05 with 6,000 miles on the odometer. I now have 190,000 miles and she is running strong. I have had to do some minor maintenance, but I have driven her all over the country and frankly done so at high speeds. My friends call the car the silver bullet because I have a lead foot. The car has never left me stranded and is very fun to drive. Dropping the back seats is a breeze and I can fit tons of luggage or furniture it it. I am now looking for a newer model and hoping I love it like I love this little Liberty. If I didnt have to travel, I would keep it to drive around town because I love it so much!

I traded a 2000 Ford Mustang for my Liberty and havent looked back. It has been an absolute joy to have. The only negative Ive noticed is that gas mileage could be better. Interior room is adequate and Im over six foot. Room for the kids and their stuff too. Peppy six banger and smooth transmission and transfer case make even off road use easy and fun.
