This Year's Model Updates:

All 2004 Jeep Libertys now feature a passenger-side grab handle and a power accessory delay feature, while Renegade models get additional rock rail protection and black accent body side moldings. New options include UConnect, Chrysler's hands-free in-vehicle communication system, a tire-pressure monitoring system and a cargo organizer. Safety is enhanced thanks to a system that unlocks doors, illuminates interior courtesy lights and shuts off the fuel pump after airbag deployment. A new trim -- the Jeep Liberty Columbia Edition -- has been introduced, offering 16-inch graphite-painted aluminum wheels; graphite-painted fascias and body moldings; body-colored fender flares; a sun roof; fog lamps; and Columbia badging.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

  • I hope this car lasts forever! - 2004 Jeep Liberty

I love this thing. I want it to last forever. I have zero complaints after almost 6 years of ownership. Edmunds.com helped me make the decision to buy so I thought Id finally come back and pay it forward. I will say, Ive had to replace parts that I havent seen die out so early in other cars. Ive replaced the part that keeps your windows up. Ive replaced both front speakers. Ive replaced my belts and hoses. Ive replaced my battery a few times. Still, at the end of the day, my Liberty Limited is holding up quite nicely and no matter what car I end up renting or trying out, I always find myself more comfortable in the Jeep.

I received my 2004 Jeep Liberty Renegade for my birthday. We had been looking at several different makes and models but finally decided on this Jeep Liberty. It looked awsome and I really loved the way it drove. Ten days after our purchase, I was stopped at a red traffic light and looked in my rear view mirror and saw a large SUV coming up behind me and not stopping. I braced my feet on the break and my hands on the wheel, then closed my eyes. CRASH!! I was rear- ended. When I got out of my Jeep to check out the damage, I was amazed. The Ford Expedition was totaled and undriveable. My Liberty took the hit on the door mounted spare tire, and cam

I installed the tornado air system and put in a K&N air filter. I also use synthetic oil-- all this has bumped me from original MPG of 14.5 to an acceptable 17.1 MPG. The V6 engine is very strong and responds immediately when you stomp it with a downshift from 4th to 2nd. Stock speakers were bad-- replaced head unit with pioneer 3 pre- outs, put in Polk Momo coaxials and components in all 4 doors w/ dynamat powered by an eclipse amp, and have a Kicker 12" SoloBaric L7 sub in the back (its a 4ohm w/ dual voice coils and a sealed enclosure) the sub is powered by a rockford 500 punch amp. The Liberty drives flawlessly in the rain, great big tread/goodyear tires

I purchased my Jeep in 2004. It had 13 miles on it when I drove it out of the show room. Its very reliable and I had no major fixes. It now has 84K and still going strong. The ride is rough but I dont mind. All the other features make up for it.. Love My Jeep!

I special ordered a liberty for my wife to drive back and forth to work adding skid plates, limited slip R/E and selectrac trans as we have to drive on a steep shale rd to get home. At 15K the trans started to overheat and we took it to Lithia dodge in Concord CA, they told me that they wouldnt cover any damage because we "rock crawled" the vehicle. I tried to get help from Jeep.com and couldnt even get them to give me their last name (plausible deniability?) I finally paid $2200. to get the trans repaired at a private shop. (Lithia wanted $8k). It broke down again after a few months and the private shop narrowed the problem to a factory defect in the t/case. Dont buy one!

I have owned hondas and toyotas since I was driving. I always wanted a Jeep, but was afraid of american made vehicles. I have had my jeep for 18 months and the rotors had to be replaced at 15,000 miles. My jeep has 30,000 miles on it now and guess what? I need to have the rotors redone again...that is my biggest complaint. I do alot of highway driving but the car is so damn heavy it kills the rotors to stop the vehicle. I love it in the snow...living in new england this car rules. I love my Jeep but its making me poor with the fuel prices. :o)

Ive had my old car (1987 VW Vanagon) for 17 years. When it became apparent that I needed a new one, I wanted to research it thoroughly since it will be another 17 yrs. before my next new one. I read over 200 reviews from other Liberty owners, Edmunds, Consumer Reports, etc. I bought my Liberty 2 weeks ago and so far am very satisfied! I know the gas mileage isnt that great but it gets a little better than my old car and has much more power! And who cares that the glove compartment is so small...we would just fill it with junk we dont need anyway!

  • Extremely off-road capable - 2004 Jeep Liberty

Bought this Jeep brand new in 2004 & has never been in the repair shop once until July 2008, for routine maintenance. When I bought new I had the dealer install the skid plate group, tow hooks & rock rails. I have taken this Jeep off-road many times & its quite impressive, I believe its more rugged than most people realize. I should know because I have previously owned a 1946 CJ2-A & also a 1972 CJ-6. I do most of my 4 wheeling in Michigan & I was honestly surprised at some of the muddy situations I was able to get out of. One thing Ive noticed as a 43 year old male over the last 4 years, this car is very popular with the woman. In fact my wife loves this car because its reliable & small
