This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

Great price. Super solid -- no squeaks and no rattles, amazingly strong structure, no wonder great safety reviews, feel confident when my wife drives it. Rear limited slip differential is a must to put power down and for safe handling when raining. A little better material inside and 5-speed auto would make it the Mercedes Benz among small SUVs, but for $26k minus the rebates and dealers discounts you cant blame them. Precise and fun car overall. Totally recommend it.

My Liberty is great. I have sunroof and satellite radio. I love the window controls in the middle now my kids will not bother the windows. I just look for excuses to leave the house so I can drive it. The gas mileage isnt all that good but I honestly dont care. I’m for sure keeping my Liberty; no more trading in me if I do I’m getting another Liberty.

I put 1000 miles on my liberty the 1st week, i purchased it,the ride is great, seats need to be more comfortable though. performance is is ok,could be better, but than the mpg would suffer more. All in all my jeep was a good investment.

After having only owend this vehicle for a week - I am excited to be a new Jeep owner. I just got back from taking this vehicle to Colorado and the drive was very comfortable - had great power and overall a great trip. It looks great both inside and out and has many extras that ita competitor lack.

Ive owned several SUVs since 1980: International Scout (2), Ford Bronco, Ford Explorer (3). I use my Liberty to tow a 2500 lb. boat/trailer package mostly, putting on about 60% of my miles that way (to-and-from Canada). Performance/handling and economy are are as good/better than any previous SUV, including the Bronco and Scout V-8s.

This vehicle brings me back to my old CJ-7, except my feet dont get hot and I can haul small children with me too. It has a solid feel, powerful acceleration and great braking. It handles the mud great. On-road driving has a confident, sturdy feel. The new fog lamps cut the fog like a knife. The "modern" extras make it really fun to drive.

I love my Liberty. It is great off roading in the mountains and it gobbles up the snow. The starting feature in 4WD Low without the clutch helps on the steep trails. It turns on a shorter base than my Nissan Spec V. I do get 20 MPG but on the interstate when going above 75 it is a little thirsty. Manual transmission is a little noisy. The brakes seem to be slow pulling down at high speeds.

  • Needs a little more design work - 2005 Jeep Liberty

A little tight after driving a Dodge Caravan for almost 6 years. Interior storage does not compare nor does console design. Brake and gas pedal are too close to each other, could easily depress gas while using brakes. Thirsty at the pump does not say enough.

  • SUV for the younger set - 2005 Jeep Liberty

This is my first SUV. While I like sitting up high, a major feature of this vehicle, there are numerous drawbacks. Gas mileage is awful -- and I do lots of freeway driving. Leg room on the drivers side is cramped. Lots of plastic on the interior. The glove compartment is well-named; thats about all youre able to store. The ride is extremely hard. Little give in the suspension system. On the other hand, it is roomy for passengers.
