Overview & Reviews
An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.
- Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
- Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

Great Vehicle - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By The Geo - January 30 - 3:00 amI purchased my 2004 Jeep Liberty Ltd. in November, Fortunately we have had plenty of snow for me to try this thing out. Found an empty parking lot with about 8 to 12 inches of snow in it and i was very very pleased at what this Jeep will do. With this motor it had plenty of torque and went through it without bogging down one bit. I currently have 5200km on it and have no major complaints. The only thing i can complain about and that most other people do is the gas mileage(20-21 imperial miles per gallon in mixed driving). The other is a small and useless glovebox. That being said i still would recommend this vehicle to anyone .

Diesel Dilemmas - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By sarah - January 16 - 5:30 pmLots of low end power and torque for climbing hills, when it is running ok. Has been in the shop 5 times in the 9 months that I have had the Liberty. Most of the time they reset or flash the computer and send you out down the road and then youre back the next day when the check engine light comes back on. Seems there is a defect in the EGR valve that either hangs open or leaks by causing the diesel motor to lurch on cruise. I think this problem will show up more as mileage on others increase.

2005 Jeep Liberty Sport CRD - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By John - December 25 - 7:16 amIn garage two times for ERG. replaced second time @ 30,000 mi. I now have 83,000 mi and no problems. Get 22mpg all around and 26-33 mpg on hwy @`55- 65 mpg. I am extremely happy with my Liberty! If you can find a vehicle that gets this mileage and can tow 5000 lbs for the price (or, any price?) you better buy it and let me know what it is!

Youre on your own; its a hobby car. - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By turblediesel - December 16 - 5:00 pm1500 miles, leaked out power steering fluid. ABS light has come on twice. ETC (Electronic Throttle Control) light has come on several times causing it to run lousy. Dealer service useless. "A light came on but its out now." Took a week to get it looked at and three days to tell me what I told them. Had to drive my $25,000.00 thumb to the dealer to pick it up. Dealer says the diesels dont have service intervals. Fun to drive when it works. Quirky.

Liberty4x4 Diesel - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By spete - December 9 - 4:00 pmI have owned over 30 vehicles in 35 years and this is the most "fun to drive" vehicle ever. It is quick, loads of torque, and is just a great vehicle. Pulls my trailer with ease.

great - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By dominic - December 6 - 4:13 amI love this Liberty truck and it is wonderful drive and easier to park than midsize trucks. If you are single you should buy compact suv to save space; if with kids thats different.

Love my jeep - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By mugsy44875 - November 29 - 4:29 pmI have to say i love my jeep and am keeping it till it falls apart. I have owned a 2005 bought used in 2005 with only 5000 miles on it and now has 56000 miles. I usually only do city driving. It wonderful in the snow. The biggest downfall is the mpg. Horrible! That would be the only reason not to buy one. Fun car to drive and small/compact. No major problems at all.

Poor on Gas - Great Otherwise - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Alleygal65 - November 22 - 9:20 amIve been hit and my Liberty comes out smelling and looking like a rose. It handles beautifully on and off-road and in snow. Its great looking too. BUT the gas mileage is a REAL problem.

2005 Jeep Liberty - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Tomk - November 13 - 8:10 amThis vehicle is fun to drive. I love the size although the cargo space is a bit limited. The rear seats fold down easily for more storage area. The ride is smooth and tight without being stiff. The seats are well padded and sit comfortably, but are very narrow (and Im only 160 lbs). I have the leather trim option which means the seats are mostly vinyl with a little bit of leather on the sides. The back and seat bottoms become very hot and "sweaty" in the summer. The highway ride is comfortable but has a lot of wind noise above 60 mph. I have 7000 highway miles since purchased new in Sept 05. The EPA sticker boasts 22 mpg highway and I cant even break 16 mpg.
