This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

  • Fun Ride - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I loved the look of the Liberty Renegade vs the Sport and Limited. Stick with the V6, I find it to have better pick-up. Best way to go on this vehicle is when its fully loaded. Only mistake I made was getting it in black since it looks like its always dirty (but hey its a Jeep right? Thats what gives it its character!) Very comfortable ride on pavement.

I have to say I love the way the Liberty looks on the inside and outside. I was so excited to find an SUV that was so classy. Unfortunately, I have experienced some problems with the transmission/4WD. The car gets stuck in reverse. I then I have to turn it off and on. Its been in to get fixed and no one can find anything wrong with it. Although Chrysler does a fantastic job of making their vehicles look good, but the reliability is just not there. Its a shame! Mine only has 12,000 miles and Im going to get rid of it. I just cant trust it.

This Jeep has been a great purchase. Since I purchased it this Jeep has gone everywhere and done everything that I asked of it. It was inexpensive to purchase but has given me excellent on-road and off-road performance. In all my off-road adventures, and I do a lot of off-roading, this Jeep has only left me stranded once when I bottomed it out in some muddy ruts. My previous CJ5 would have been stuck in the same spot. On the highway it has made a lot of trips to Salt Lake City and to Reno and has been as reliable as my Timex watch. The only real work that has been done on it was the recall for the ball joints. IMHO this is the best of this class of 4x4 SUV. 4x is built in, not added on later

Great SUV; not great on gas and with prices now, you may want to consider mileage, but better than other SUVs. Comfortable, reliable, safe. Only problem, is with the windows ... when rear windows are open there is a very loud sound that sounds like you have a flat tire.

  • Check Engine light - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I have owned my Jeep for a year now. I love it when it is not in the shop. I have a problem with the check engine light coming on and it will idle rough. The dealership does not seem to be concerned about this. They use a machine and cut the light off but it comes on again in about 1000 miles and they just do the same thing. I have spent several trips trying to get them to fix the problem only to be told if it breaks down call the 1-800 number and they will come get it.

I ride to NYC everyday (45 miles each way). I spend a lot of time driving. This is one of the best all around vehicles Ive ever had. Smooth ride, not squishy. Good isolation from the road. Great visibility, sturdy, relatively quiet, no rattles yet. Rides over potholes and ruts great. Turning radius is excellent. And, its 4 wheel drive...so snow is no problem.

  • Planned Obsolescence or Malfunction?? - 2005 Jeep Liberty

For 5 years I had no issues with my 2005 Jeep Liberty nor prior warning until its transmission DIED in the middle of I205 @60 mph, fortunately, no one was hurt. Believe it or not, only 75k miles and the transmission died? 5k out of warranty and Daimler Chrysler rejected my plea for help due to lack of regular maintenance? I did my oil change, brakes, tires, but what does it have anything to do with transmission? I did my transmission, differential oil @32k and was planning for another service when it DIED on me. What else do I need to do? I understand that it is out of warranty but what about customer dedication, stand by your product, and good-will? no plan to purchase a 3rd Jeep NOT EVER

  • Much more good than bad - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Although I have not owned this vehicle long, I love it. With gas prices as they are, it is not a gas saver, however, I find that I get the same gas mileage as I got with my 6cyl sedan, yet have more room. This vehicle has a smooth ride and I dont have the fears I have had in other SUVs. I have been easily able to fit 3 car seats in the back. I have found that oversized people are a little uncomfortable riding in this vehicle. I have also found that in heavy rains, the highest speed of the wipers is not fast enough. It is also an inconvenience that you have to get the replacement for the rear wiper from the dealership as it is an nonstandard 13 1/2 inch blade. The seats stain easily

This is a great vehicle. Fun to drive and impressive off road. Handles well on the road and even better on the beach. :-)

We got the car a week ago, our first SUV. It is great. Fun to drive, decent pick up, a great stereo, with steering wheel controls. The seats are comfortable and easy to see out of, even for my 5 2" wife. Best of all, its American, so the manufacturer offers lots of incentives - we got $2000 cash back plus 0% for 5 years.
