This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

  • This is a great SUV - 2005 Jeep Liberty

i have had my Jeep Liberty since March when I got it and it has done everything that I wanted it to do. Like tow 3 four wheelers up on a trailer with no problem up and down hills. And its four wheel drive, well its just awesome. It will go anywhere you want too; this is just a great vehicle from jeep

She is a pleasure to drive. I have complete confidence in her. The GPS has made this "old lady" more comfortable about going to new places alone. My son thinks it is too small, but he owns a 2004 Grand Cherokee; the Liberty is perfect for me and my needs. If I had any complaint, it would be the inability to see easily when backing out of parking spaces. Front view is fine.

Bought new in 8/05 and have 70,000 miles by 8/09. Simply I have had no problems with this vehicle. The only work has been one recall and regular maintenance. The a/c works great, the transmission shifts tight and smooth and Ive been getting 21mpg mixed city and highway. I like the heavy solid feel and great visibility. I have not taken the Liberty off road much but when I have it has performed well. Overall I could not ask for better.

  • 2005 CRD Liberty - 2005 Jeep Liberty

The outstanding engineering behind the new CRD engine qualifies as such a joy. And I am here to tell you that this engine blows away (no pun intended) all the myths and conventional thinking that we have come to associate with diesel engines over the years. With no visible smoke, no apparent diesel smell and a whisper quiet engine sound at highway speeds, this vehicle actually out-ran many gas engine vehicles in the mountains of California, Oregon and Washington on a recent trip. At one gas station, a trucker even walked up to my son and unwittingly said: “Excuse me son, but do you know that you’re putting diesel fuel into that Jeep?” No one seems to know about next gen diesel technology.

  • Love our Jeep Liberty!! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

We just bought a used Liberty and we love it! The back door is my favorite feature. Its comfortable to drive, theres plenty of power and gas mileage is good. It drives like a Jeep, not like a car, which is what we we wanted and were expecting. If you want a great little Jeep to take off road and to the store, get a Liberty! Buy American!

  • Liberty CRD That NO ONE can fix. - 2005 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I have owned four Jeeps. This is the biggest "Hunk Of Junk" I have owned EVER!! multiple, multiple problems. To be fair, It is great when it is not in the shop. However, it has been in the shop 14 times in the first year. I have parked in my drive way and have a Lemon Law" Attorney. The dealership does not care and blow off all complaints. JEEP will not help. This Liberty Limited CRD stinks! Worst auto I have EVER owned. If you want to buy one, know your states "Lemon Law" and hire a GOOD Attorney because, youre going to need it! Jeep/Chrysler will do NOTHING & dealer ship blames Chrysler and ANOTHER RUN AROUND!

  • CRD for America - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Good that Jeep offers diesels in the American market. We drove diesel powered cars in Europe for years so its not surprising to see them gaining more acceptance in the US due to higher fuel prices. Our Jeep is powerful, very capable off road and quite livable as a daily commuter. Fuel consumption is OK but could be less -- it is a heavy vehicle, after all, and the full-time 4x4 on the Limited makes winter driving much more secure.

The 2005 Jeep Liberty is a great SUV for a woman on the go. You sit high with great visiablity and comfort. I feel very safe driving it. The cargo area in the rear is great for groceries or whatever you may have to toss back there. Plenty of room and very comfortable. Good sound system. Im feeling good about my purchase and got a great deal. Check one out, you wont be sorry.

  • rear pinion bearing - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I got this after owning a ford explorer.....wrong thing to do.After only 11,000 miles we had to replace rear pinion bearing. Here we are, only 2.5 months and 4,000 miles later, we have to replace it again. Its not reliable, not comfortable, not roomy enough, no storage room, and the list goes on and on. Worse vehicle I ever owned and I cant wait to be rid of it!

  • Eh. - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Ive had my Liberty for about two months now. In these past few months I have spent over $1000 in repairs. First, the rear-axle had problems, and second there was a crack in my radiator. The Libertys gas mileage is absolutely horrid. I at least get 17 mpg hwy. The interior design of the Liberty is impressive, but the audio system is bad, too. The speakers in the car do not go loud enough. It is also very loud, getting up to 70 mph in the car is like being on a jet plane. Otherwise, does good in bad weather, and is rather stylish looking. If it werent for all the repairs and horrid gas mileage, this car would be perfect.
