This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

I love this vehicle. It has great acceleration for city driving and handles well. Much smoother ride than I expected, too.

I just got back from rooting around in the Alaskan snow in my new Jeep! I gotta tell ya....this is one impressive off-roader. My Liberty is such a nice change from driving a boring vehicle. I traded a 1995 Pathfinder in on the Liberty, and also have a 01 Outback that does great in the snow, but neither can compete with this machine, especially in the deep, rough stuff. It is obviously too early to give a "real" review since it still has only 100 miles on it, but it got a breaking in this afternoon! Time will tell...

So far, it has been great. Its fun to drive. It has enough power for merging onto the interstate or mucking around on dirt roads. Ive taken it on roads trips, had in deep in the country, and Ive used it to go to formal parties downtown.

After 75,000 miles, I had to replace the transmission at a cost of nearly $3000. One would think you could get just a little more mileage than that. The water pump went out at 58,000 miles. Just in time to be covered by the warranty. A lot of rattling which is typical of Jeeps as they age. Goes good in the snow, which is what Im going to use it for now. But wouldnt buy another one for everyday commuting.

  • Finally Have My Liberty! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I love my new 2005 Liberty Sport, and the black clearcoat looks awesome!! After my saturn was totaled in an accident, I am now so grateful and fortunate to own my Jeep Liberty. I have been waiting months and doing my research, which had me stuck between the Toyota RAV4 and the Liberty, both my dad and sister have a Liberty. They are an incedibly well built SUV, that can get through any terrain. I live in a mountain area next to Lake Tahoe, where an SUV really needs to do what it claims, and hands down, the Liberty has the best 4X4 system in its class, and looks the best too! I did not feel as safe in the RAV4, the choice was easy!!!

  • Its a Lemon... - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Purchased 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4 on 6/30/05 with 14 miles on it. Has been in the shop with a known transmission defect (but apparently undisclosed by manufacturer) for over a month. The release date for the repair has come and gone, but it is now on back order. Chrysler/Jeep will not stand behind product. Told me to sue them under lemon law. Think twice before you buy! At the very least verify that the vehicle you purchase was manufactured after April 2005.

  • After Two Year, Im Very Impressed - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Ive had my 05 Liberty Limited for two years now, and after 30,000 miles, Im very impressed. Ive not had a bit of trouble with this vehicle. I cant believe the improvement in build quality over the past 20 years for Jeep. All I do is perform regular service, and drive it. I love this vehicle. A lot of times Im on the freeway, and the luxury features of the Ltd. are great. Other times Im using the 4WD to get to trail heads or on snowy or icy roads. Never a lick of stress or strain. Great vehicle. The gas mileage stinks, but this is a truck shaped like a box, not a car shaped like a wedge. Also, I can put my bike in the back upright with the rear seats down, front bike tire off.
