This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

  • Youve Missed the Point - 2005 Jeep Liberty

If you are buying a Liberty just to do your on-road erends, you have missed the point of this vehicle. It is every bit as at home off road as on. There are smoother riding, better handling compact SUVs out there, but, in my opinion, they dont make it off road. The Liberty is a good compromize between off and on road abilities. I have owned two Wranglers before the Liberty, and the Liberty can go just about anywhere I could go with my Wrangler, but it is a loit bettter handling on the highway than the Wrangler and much more comfortable to drive in for long distances.

Drives excellent, fully loaded, but remember it is an suv, 4 wheel drive so expect a little out side noise, whining, and truck like tendencies. But much better than an economy car. I love it!

  • Transmission problems - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I purchased my Livery when it was 2 years old. I loved it!!!! Very comfortable and fun to drive. At 58,000 miles, I began to experience transmission problems. The transmission slips constantly in damp and snowy weather and the check engine light comes on. Took it to the dealer 3 times and they still cant find the problem. Calls to the Jeep customer service have been useless. I am also having trouble with the rear passenger window going down. My warranty will expire soon and I am concerned I will be stuck with a huge repair bill. I love the looks and the comfort, but I will NEVER buy another Jeep vehicle. The gas mileage stinks as well. About 15 city. 18 hwy.

Nearly have 6K miles on my CRD. Has been trouble free save for the one incident at less than 600 miles. Has been flawless since then. Traveled to Florida and averaged 27.1 mpg for the trip. Ran like a dream and ran away a few times because I forgot to engage the cruise control. Seats are really comfortable and I was able to drive for long periods without pain or discomfort. A/C was great in Florida and had a nominal impact in fuel economy. Performance has improved with mileage. More pulling power than before.

Love that Liberty. Great vehicle, good engine power, okay gas mileage, and never been stranded or stuck in the mud.

  • Love my Liberty - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I purchased my Jeep Liberty last month after we have had a terrible winter in Ohio. Not only is it great on the road but is fun to drive. My only beef is a small glove compartment with very little room for essentials inside. Other than that I really am happy with my Jeep and have fun with my 5 year old grandson who calls it my beep beep Jeep.

  • TOO BAD, SO SAD ... - 2005 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Bought my Liberty CRD brand new with 222 miles on it. Within one year, had two recalls where I was without vehicle for a week w/ no replacement. Replaced EGR valve and sensor after 2 years, now 1 1/2 years later, have to replace again. Very expensive fix and Chrysler and dealer wont do anything about it. Why buy brand new (or from Chrysler) if their vehicles constantly are in the shop? Regular maintenance, tires, brakes, etc. understandable, but these big ticket items are ridiculous! Never again. (Too bad, though. I was soooo excited to get this vehicle! Always a huge fan of Jeep and Dodge, but this has completely soured my taste for all things Chrysler).

  • CRD was a loser - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I purchased this Jeep liberty CRD new. Just after I got it they had a recall for the front wheel bearings and the torque converter and transmission front pump. Both were replaced under warranty. The next thing to go bad was the EGR valve which went bad after 35,000 miles. It was replaced under warranty. At about 45,000 miles I started having problems with the boost pressure sensor getting loaded up with carbon. I cleaned this and reinstalled and would go bad over and over. the EGR air flow control went bad, known to every one else as a throttle body. NOT covered under warranty. Last thing the fuel filter mount required to be replaced by Chrysler but will not pay or it. Good riddance Chrysler

  • 2005 Liberty has been in shop 3 times - 2005 Jeep Liberty

My 2005 Liberty Diesel has been in the shop 3 times for powertrain problems and on this last time the transmission completely went out. I only have 30k miles on the Jeep. This is a major concern for me as I work at Daimler Chrysler in a transmission plant. The first vehicle I ever bought was a Jeep and Ive stuck with them for past 9 years however after these problems I am strongly considering a new brand....

I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4 6 Speed. Engine Runs Great, about 15 mpg city. Only 44,500 Miles, bought new. Have already had to replace Shifter, Water pump, and Power steering Hoses. Now Im getting a Clinking noise when I take off on a hill in 1st shifting to 2nd. Its a loud clink. Once I get going the Transmission runs smooth and quiet. Any Ideas.
