This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2003 Jeep Liberty, a new overhead console, based on that of the Grand Cherokee, includes a unique interface that allows passengers to program the operation of nine convenience and safety items to their own preference. Liberty owners can now personalize several features, including which doors unlock with the first press of the remote keyless entry unlock button, the miles driven between service intervals and the amount of time the headlamps remain on when exiting the vehicle. Finally, an available six-disc in-dash CD player replaces the cargo area mounted unit. Standard four-wheel disc brakes endow the Jeep with improved brake feel on-road, decreased stopping distances and reduced brake fade. Available electrochromic interior and driver-side rearview mirrors help reduce headlight glare from traffic at night, and standard sliding sun visors have been added, which serve to keep the sun out of your eyes by providing added windshield and side glass coverage.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "carlike" as most of its competitors.

  • Whats that Rattle under the Hood - 2003 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I have had my Liberty for going on two years. A joy to drive and powerful. I was totally impressed till the serpentine belt flew apart at 21K miles tearing gash in hood liner, cutting a/c line. That rattle?? according to Chrysler Jeep it is a characteric of the tensioning pulley, I have had tensioning pulley replaced 3 times (twice while standing there as mechanic did it in service lane after intitial replacement)and all of them rattle and wobble. Poor design flaw!!!!! What happens when warrantee expires? a costly repair/service every 20K miles. Personally, I am looking into a different vehicle.

My husband bought this Jeep for me because I needed something with 4 wheel drive and style but wanted the comfort of a car. Well me got all that and more. I love it... gets 22 miles to the gallon.

automatic transmission is as smooth as any sedan Ive driven (hope it stays that way); quick steering; firm and controlled ride - better ride on the pavement than expected. gas mileage might be better, but I dont expect that with 210 hp V6 and auto trans./4 wd- I drive all highway miles and have been avg. 20.5 miles a gallon on regular gas. suits me. I dont think of my Liberty as purely an SUV… its a JEEP sort of phenomenon. hehe. Oh by the way Im 42.

  • DONt BUY THIS VEHICLE - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Bought the vehicle in July 2001. It took 3 trips to fix the vehicle from pulling to the right as yoy dive. I has been in for 3 times because of no heat. 1 time they said a hose was put on wrong at the factory the other time they said there was "air" in the system. It is now having a problem with the air bag light statyin on. They say it is a seat belt clip that neeeds to be ordered and then It will have to go in to be installed and they are not sure that will correct the proble, So now I am driving with no air bag protection. Not to mention a recall. In short DON"T BUY ONE!

  • super fun - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Love that Liberty! Not noisy like the Wrangler, not big and tippy like the Grand Cherokee, but rather its quick, nimble, agile, stable, and solid. As I read on Edmunds: if youre looking at the Freelander but want a "capable" vehicle, buy a liberty.

  • Jeeps are it! - 2003 Jeep Liberty

This is an incredable SUV. You certainly get your moneys worth. I looked at comparable SUVs (XTerra, Escape) and to get the same options in those cars, it would have cost me between 3 and 5 thousand extra. The car is solid, rides great and has alot of power.

  • Great Small Truck - 2003 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Its great on the beach in sand, I have no problem towing a small boat anywhere. It handles much better on the road than reviews would lead you to believe.

  • Bouncy Vehicle - 2003 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Seem very bouncy and build like an older Wranger or CJ series with a non- removable hardtop...wouldnt recommend for comfort.
