This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

  • Only in a Jeep! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Love my Liberty Sport. We gets tons of snow here. This little powerhouse just plowed through it like a hot knife through butter. You could feel the 4WD dig in as the ice developed on the roads. This is my 1st experience with a Jeep - Im a believer now! Can hardly wait to take it to the mountains of British Columbia this summer and do some climbing.

Owned 10 or more previous vehs. (3rd brand new). Over 116k miles later wouldnt trade it for the world. The handling and stability saved our lives - kept us from even having the accident (another driver made left from oncoming lane 50-75 feet in front of us while traveling approx. 55 mph) I Love the tight steering. Original brakes went 84k and still had plenty left. Will be passing on to children.

I have had 2 of these. My first one I bought in 2001 I gave that to my wife after I put 45,000 miles. Best 4x4 on the road.

The Jeep Liberty is comfortable, unique, quick, reliable and fun to drive. The short turning radius is great for around town and that is how its driven mostly.

  • CRD Perfect Timing - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Purchased as our primary vehicle with many needs - hauling 2000-3000lb trailer, multi-passenger (small) transport with good fuel mileage. The big differentiator between the CRD and everything else, even other Liberties, was the combination of towing capability and good fuel mileage. Add on the extended engine life with the diesel and so far its exactly what we need.

  • CRD Liberty , the best Jeep yet - 2005 Jeep Liberty

The diesel engine is not a new engine. V M Mortori has already made over 200,000 engines for DC, and other manufactures as well. 160 HP and 295 lbs of torque is a fantastic power plant. Rides better than the 3.7 V-6. Fit and finish exceed SUV standards. Perhaps this is the best SUV of all.

  • Jeep Liberty changed my Pure-Jeep mind - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I am a hardcore Jeep fanatic. At first, I thought it was shocking to see Jeep was replacing the legendary Cherokee. Like most Jeepheads, I thought the Liberty just didnt belong in the Jeep family. However, after totaling my Cherokee I took a chance. The Liberty performs just as well as the Cherokee, but with comfort and style that the Cherokee lacks. (And it looks good next to my CJ-5 too!)

  • First Jeep ever - 2005 Jeep Liberty

This is my first Jeep ever, but second diesel powered vehicle. Have about 1050 miles on it and am still discovering the vehicle. Had a failure at 586 miles. A spike wiped the engine controller and it had to be re-flashed. Works fine otherwise. Construction of this Jeep is very robust and the fit and finish is on par with what the Japanese give you. Engine is strong with excellent power and smoothness. Transmission is generally smooth but a little harsh until warmed up. Great seating, once you get it the way you want it. Good handling and ride once you get rid of the Goodyear garbage tires that come on the Jeep. I would recommend this Jeep in a heartbeat!

  • Jeep Liberty Diesel - 2005 Jeep Liberty

This in one of the most fun cars I have ever owned. The desel allows me to tow a good size trailer and still get good mileage. I usually run bio-diesel that is an outstanding value. All in all, this is a great car and I would buy another one, if Jeep was smart enough to keep making them. It is a perfect size.

A great SUV, especially if offroad performance and styling are important attributes. Its very stable in town and rock climbing. This Jeep is trail rated.
