This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

Great torque, fun to drive, BADLY put together, Horrible dealerships and awful service, 15 mpg, engine mount design causes really bad huge vibration at temps below twenty degrees below zero. Warranty is meaningless. FIFTEEN MPG. Horrible, horrible - run screaming into the night and buy a Toyota.

We purchased a 2005 Jeep Liberty just two months ago after researching SUVs. Living in SoCal, with an active lifestyle, we wanted agility, durability, and room for our family of four. We just hated those gigantic SUVs that bully people on the highways and are used as status symbols. The Jeep Liberty was the perfect fit for us. It is agile and sturdy and loads of fun. We do not mind sitting in SoCal traffic in our happy blue Jeep. It is not a cookie cutter behemoth SUV. If you are looking to please yourself and your wallet as opposed to spending an extra $20,000-$40,000 more to impress your neighbors and co-workers,this is the SUV to purchase.Easy on gas, despite the article. I am in LOVE!

I have had no problems with my 03 Liberty LTD. For the price it includes features I have never had in any other vehicle Ive owned.

I wasnt necessarily looking for a Jeep, but this model really caught my eye. Im really happy I chose this vehicle over others. All the features and comforts of other Liberty models, (actually most vehicles) are here. It is WAY better than the Sport Model I had as a loaner during service. Spend the few extra $$$ for this model. Its a superior value over the other Libertys/other vehicles in its price range! Its a lot bigger than it looks. Park it next to a minivan or pull up next to some of those really "large" SUVs or pickups. Its right there! Again, I wasnt actually out to buy this one, but I am glad that I did! And then there was this winters snow and rain. It paid for itself!

Love the style, ease of handling, value for money. Diesel fuel could be cheaper and Im not sure we are getting the fuel efficiency advertised. We only get about 420 miles per tank as of now. I believe the advertised 500 miles per tank is misleading.

I needed a 4wd for snowy winters in Wi. Well, I purchased my 2005 jJeep Renegade last Dec of 2004, not much snow or severe conditions to really test my Jeep. I enjoy the ride and the comfort of the drivers seat, but my passengers in the back will complain of hard bouncing and not much padding. The back cargo area is way too small. Just can get my golf clubs in sideways, the glove box is a laugh and a half; it holds a pencil. The gas mileage is poor, but a lot of suvs are; gets 18 city. I feel safe in it; the ride is tight, and it has more than adequate acceleration with the 3.7 engine. Great little vehicle to park and scoot around in, but not enough He-Man room. My wife loves it. Great buy now on 2005 models.

Purchased the Jeep for my wife about a month ago. Shes put on about 1K miles; well actually, Ive probably put on a few of those miles myself. We both enjoy the Jeep greatly. We actually fight over who will drive it at times. Ive owned a Wrangler in the past, so I knew the off-road ability would definitely be there. The interior fit and finish is very nice (owning a Honda myself) and there are no rattles. Wish the gas mileage was better, but its an SUV so you learn to live with it.

Overall I am very happy with this vehicle. Its a great drive. The Liberty catches up with traffic with no problem. I get the whole spare tire thing, but I would rather have a lift gate than the swinging door (especially in the rain). And I have to open the garage door to get large items in and out (e.g. golf clubs). Gas mileage ranges from a low of 14MPG around town to 20MPG on highway trips - pretty disappointing. I noticed the brake pedal is set a little higher than the accelerator which means a lot of leg lifts around town. But the 4-wheel disk brakes bring the car to a stop easily. You get a very good sense of control until you approach 70MPH. So dont. This car will stay in the family.

My wife and I test drove just about everything and settled on the Kia Sorento or the Liberty, We were able to drive both back to back. The Liberty has a tighter feel, the Kia was bouncy and felt sluggish. The liberty felt snappy. I like the fact that you can hear the engine. We couldnt get all the options we wanted in one vehicle. We wanted the off-road group and the towning package and got neither. It took over 5 hours to complete the deal!! I still cant belive it. we are glad we have a real Jeep!
