Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

  • Great at first - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I bought my 03 Jeep Liberty used. It was only a year old and I loved it! I wasnt concerned with gas milage back then so the average 19 mpg highway didnt bother me. Drove great for the first 5 years except the blower motor for the heater went out several times. In the last few years of owning it I started having problems. First my water pump went and then the front drive shaft blew up. I went without a drive shaft for a little while (no 4 wheel drive for me) until winter and then installed a new one. That one lasted 2 uses and then blew up as well. I got one more installed and that one lasted 1 use. I heard that this was a problem in these models. I have since moved on.

  • Great Jeep - 2011 Jeep Liberty

I bought a 2011 white Liberty Limited in December of 2010. This is my 3rd Jeep, my last two jeep vehicles that I owned were a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo loaded with all the extras. I was a bit worried about quality not buying another Grand Cherokee but the dealer gave me such a good deal on this liberty I could not pass it up. Over 4 months of owning it and I love it! The 18 inch chrome wheels make the white stand out. I got the model with the dark brown interior and the black dash panels along with a light headliner combo, Jeep really did the color combination in this car right. As far as the mechanics go, the engine runs smooth; the transmission shifts smooth, the command track II 4 wheel drive works great just have to remember to turn it off when you get to dry pavement; the system performs like a diff locker so it does not do well with turns on a none slick surface. The Jeep I think has a lot of power for a V6 itÂ’s never going to be a race car but it gets the job done. I am so happy once again with my purchase that I will be buying another Jeep in the future.

  • Window regulators and water stained seat - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

This is my third jeep. I bought a 2006 liberty because they didnt make the Cherokee sport (the boxy one) any more and I had 2 of those. I dont like this car and no more jeeps for me. The window regulators have been fixed 4 times, the seats are all water stained and professionally cleaning them didnt help and did I mention the blind spots? Chrysler is in the toilet and they dont want to recall the regulators or clean the seats for no charge. Chrysler needs loyal jeep owners like me and this is how they treat us?

  • Second Jeep Liberty - 2007 Jeep Liberty

This is our second Jeep Liberty. The "2007" Limited model has all the bells. Again its fun to drive and can still handle a sizable load. The 200" came with Sirius radio for a year and so far a great addition. It is also equiped with the above center console. Love the temperature and direction indicator. It also has the tire air presure electronic gauge. With the incentives at the time its hard to pass up against the crowded SUV field.

we do not like where the window buttons are. they should have left them on the door just like all the other jeeps like the limited we own we will not buy onother jeep lik this. also when you push on the gas you go no where, it uses just as much almost as our 5.2 liter, they should offer the 4.0 in the liberty.
