This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2003 Jeep Liberty, a new overhead console, based on that of the Grand Cherokee, includes a unique interface that allows passengers to program the operation of nine convenience and safety items to their own preference. Liberty owners can now personalize several features, including which doors unlock with the first press of the remote keyless entry unlock button, the miles driven between service intervals and the amount of time the headlamps remain on when exiting the vehicle. Finally, an available six-disc in-dash CD player replaces the cargo area mounted unit. Standard four-wheel disc brakes endow the Jeep with improved brake feel on-road, decreased stopping distances and reduced brake fade. Available electrochromic interior and driver-side rearview mirrors help reduce headlight glare from traffic at night, and standard sliding sun visors have been added, which serve to keep the sun out of your eyes by providing added windshield and side glass coverage.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "carlike" as most of its competitors.

This is my first Jeep, and it made a convert out of me. The engine has plenty of "pep" and its ready to fly with the mere feathering of the gas pedal. The MPG is pretty decent - between 25 - 30+ after some ZMax. Which is fantastic for such a heavy 4x4. Heavy Northern Winters arent a problem at all. I love to head out in conditions that keep the plows garaged and Ive yet to get stuck or have to slow down. All in all, I love this Jeep more than anything and I plan on keeping it until it dies or is rusted beyond recognition. Plenty of ample cargo space as well, even if we only take up half a parking space in this little thing! Yet somehow its very spacious on the inside.

I love the Liberty, its design is great. It handles great. However, My Liberty is NOT reliable. I bought an 03 model with 27 miles on it, and it has been in the shop 4 times so far. The first two times were for transmission problems. The 3rd and 4th time were for a blinker light that would not stop flashing. The fuel economy is like that of a large SUV also - very disappointing.

I love the looks and the performance of this SUV. The only problem with mine is the 2.4 L engine is too small to carry the weight of this vehicle, even using a 5 speed manual transmission. The fuel economy is the same or less than the 3.7 L automatic (of course, some of that is the way I drive, heh, heh!). I will definitely be buying another Liberty, but with the 3.7 L engine.

  • Awesome rugged little beauty! - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I just bought my 2003 Liberty Sport. So far, I have enjoyed driving it. For all those thinking of buying a liberty, I suggest getting the V6. This engine has a lot of power, even with a full load in the back, you dont feel it struggling. The 4WD system is very easy to use, very little effort to engage. The interior is great, the layout of the dashboard is simple and easy to use. The seats are firm and provide comfort and support. The exterior does a good job of showing its ruggedness, whoever says this Jeep is cute deserves to be shot - go drive your weak CRV/RAV4.

  • so far so good - 2003 Jeep Liberty

just recently purchased the freedom edition. Boy, does this thing look great, and its so much fun to drive. Yes the window controls are in a poor location, but after a few days I hardly even noticed anymore. Seats are sporty looking and beautiful. Storage compartment is set way to far back and glove compartment is smallish, but these are such minor blemishes that i could care less. Pulls my jetski with no problems. Rear leg space is fine, as well as cargo space. The car has done nothing but impress me so far, and even is impressing my grumpy old man of a father, and that pretty much equals a five star rating then!

Exceeded expectations in quality and fun to drive. Absolutely stunning good looks. Great in snow and rain with good visibility. Very quick in traffic and solid on the interstate. MPG about what you would expect for a heavy duty small truck.

  • It is a GREAT Jeep - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I had a 96 Grand Cherokee Limited. Ready to buy a new car....I wanted something a bit smaller but still with power. I drove the LandRover Freelander & the Ford Escape and decided I liked the Jeep Liberty the best. The ergonomics of the Jeep are much better than any others of its size. The Power it has is great! Its a road hugger with weight so I feel very safe (unlike my friends Xterra which I feel like we are about to fall over when I ride in it) I drove the Liberty and loved it. It is not only hip but zippy and easy to maneuver around (much more so than my Grand Cherokee). I think that Jeep really did a great job with this Liberty.

  • Second Review - Love It! - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I love driving this car, in my first review I complained about a transmission issue which was actually a brake issue (needed new rotors) that was taken care of by my mechanic for a nice price with no problem. Overall, I love this car and I have no complaints with the exception of gas mileage. Id recommend anyone to buy it, and everyone whos been in mine loves it! This is my first SUV, my first Jeep and I will definitely buy a Jeep in the future. The Jeep Liberty Limited Edition gets an A+ from me.
