This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2003 Jeep Liberty, a new overhead console, based on that of the Grand Cherokee, includes a unique interface that allows passengers to program the operation of nine convenience and safety items to their own preference. Liberty owners can now personalize several features, including which doors unlock with the first press of the remote keyless entry unlock button, the miles driven between service intervals and the amount of time the headlamps remain on when exiting the vehicle. Finally, an available six-disc in-dash CD player replaces the cargo area mounted unit. Standard four-wheel disc brakes endow the Jeep with improved brake feel on-road, decreased stopping distances and reduced brake fade. Available electrochromic interior and driver-side rearview mirrors help reduce headlight glare from traffic at night, and standard sliding sun visors have been added, which serve to keep the sun out of your eyes by providing added windshield and side glass coverage.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "carlike" as most of its competitors.

This vehicle is great. The ride is great, layout and controls are great, especially the radio controls on back of steering wheel. No problems with vehicle--has 16,000+ miles. This is my first Jeep--went from Pathfinder LE to this and love it! Go USA!

Ive had the vehicle for about 7 weeks and it has performed well. The towing capacity is better then my friends Ford 150 2WD pickup. Motor is strong. Solid truck. Unlike the undercarriage componets of the Ford Escape, Honda CRV/Element. I felt they were too car-ish. Not suitable for the trails or offroad.

Jeep liberty 2003 V6 3.7L 4x4 This is an AMAZING vehicle! Ive read so many bad reviews on this and I have never had any problems with ine AT ALL! I have driven a wide variety of vehicles From Hyndaui accent to a Dodge Ram and this has to be my favortie! All these people ho say they have to replace their brakes every 4000 miles are full of crap! How many times do they slam on their brakes bc they werent paying attention to the car infront of them? Alot Im willing to bet on that.

This is my second Jeep. All the things I liked about my old Jeep only got better. This is a fun vehicle, handles great ,responsive engine and decent mileage for a real suv.

I owned a 94 Cherokee for 224,000 miles before it was crashed beyond repair. I purchased the Liberty expecting improved results. Overall, I enjoyed the Cherokee better & wish it was still offered.

Mom bought this car brand new in 2003, and I received it when she left the country in 2006. Overall, it has been reliable. Only major things I had to fix so far are the rear tailgate handle (pulled the handle, tailgate wouldnt open) & stock speakers started rattling and had to be replaced. Tailgate was EXPENSIVE to fix. Comfort-wise, I have started to notice some back discomfort after mid- to long-range trips, but otherwise leather seats are nice. Aesthetic-wise, the "abruptness" of the dash (or lack thereof) is a major detractor. It feels like you are sitting facing a wall, not a car dash. Gas mileage is downright awful. I average 17.5 with basic commuting.

  • Have a 2003 and still like JEEPs - 2003 Jeep Liberty

My wife and I have owned several Jeeps over the years. Recently when our 1995 Grand Cherokee was wreaked and the frame bent (brother-in law borrowed it) we decided to upgrade to a used 2003 Liberty Renegade. My wife loves it and enjoyed driving it everyday for 5 mos. til engine blew. At 168,000 miles we didnt think twice that the miles were high (The 1995 GC had 204,000 and I have a 1994 GC still using with 242,000 on it!) but we were wrong. Apparently with the 3.7L "oil sludge" becomes an issue over 100,000. Something about faulty valves cause premature engine wear. No recall yet but have seen many incidents of blown heads, head gaskets, and blown motors in very young motors. Beware.

My wife and I love it. Where we live we need 4-Wheel drive anytime it snows. We have no problem in our Jeep. We have the Sport and it shows up most SUVs on the road.
