This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2003 Jeep Liberty, a new overhead console, based on that of the Grand Cherokee, includes a unique interface that allows passengers to program the operation of nine convenience and safety items to their own preference. Liberty owners can now personalize several features, including which doors unlock with the first press of the remote keyless entry unlock button, the miles driven between service intervals and the amount of time the headlamps remain on when exiting the vehicle. Finally, an available six-disc in-dash CD player replaces the cargo area mounted unit. Standard four-wheel disc brakes endow the Jeep with improved brake feel on-road, decreased stopping distances and reduced brake fade. Available electrochromic interior and driver-side rearview mirrors help reduce headlight glare from traffic at night, and standard sliding sun visors have been added, which serve to keep the sun out of your eyes by providing added windshield and side glass coverage.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "carlike" as most of its competitors.

I test drove the top competeing model against this vehcile. Although it was a little bigger the ride and comfort was not nearly as good. I love this vehicle.

I have had this Jeep for over a year and traded up from older jeep Cherokee. replaced tires, battery and switch to AC in dash. Usual maint. costs. The only bad thing is the Gas MPG, but it is an SUV four wheel drive and that is why I got it. Wife has Toyota which gets around 38 MPG so makes up for my Jeep. I did research on this vehicle before I got it with history and previous repairs. Got great deal on it last year. No tow package but can get one installed for around 150.00. Fun to drive in summer and winter. Hate to fill it up but love the reliability and will have it paid of in about another year and a half. Wife drives it too sometimes.

  • Havin a good time - 2003 Jeep Liberty

July is 1st year anniv. for 1st time UTE/Jeep owner. Ive enjoyed driving my Jeep very much. Tranny downshift during deceleration was pretty jerky. Dealership put it on the computer to "re-learn" which seemed to have taken care of the problem for the most part. Still not as smooth as others have reported. Love the stiffer suspension and knowing that this puppy will be able to handle anything that crosses my path. Very responsive vehicle - am quite content w/the power of the V6.

I havent even had my 2003 Jeep Liberty for a year and Ive had it back to the dealer multiple times because of issues with the transmission. Its hard shifting when it slow to a certain speed. No one seems to be able to figure it out.

  • Repair Rebuilt - 2003 Jeep Liberty

After 200,000 here is the rundown of what has been repair/replaced on my 03. I have essentially rebuilt this SUV, after I "gambled" on the transmission at 160,000 hoping not much else would happen and I could not afford a new car payment. Heads(machined)/Head Gasket and all supplementary gaskets for top of engine Cooling System, hoses, and Radiator AC Compressor Fan and Interior Temp Relay Serpentine Belt (twice) Battery (twice) Regulator Water Pump Transmission Front Transaxle Shocks Rear V Stabilizer Front Ball Joints (recall) Front Control Arm Never mind the brakes, rotors, and tires and I still like the car, sort of.

  • Like my Liberty - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I have found it to be one of the most enjoyable vehicles to drive I have ever owned. It has plenty of power - plenty of options-have all but CD changer and moon roof. Have heated seats - mirrors - power everything - excellent sound system. Only complaint I have is that is is a bit rough on bad roads or city streets. On open highways it ride just fine. Gas could be a bit better and may improve after time. 19mpg during summer and about 17mpg in winter so far. Will really get up and go if you need it.

  • Jeep? - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Driven and owned Jeeps for twelve years, and bought this for the wife last year. To be honest, its a fine vehicle for what it is but doesnt have the utility of its Jeep ancestors. Shouldnt be used for anything beyond a gravel road. I wish the engine had a bit more useable torque lower on the RPM gradient (making it more suitable for towing and thus more utilitarian) and had more true cargo room. If you ignore the expectations that the Jeep logo engenders, this is the perfect vehicle for a lot of people, but the off-road enthusiasts and those looking to load it with plywood for the weekend project will be disappointed.

  • TOUGH LITTLE TRUCK - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE OCT 1, 2002 AND SO FAR HAVE RACKED UP 7500 TROUBLE FREE MILES ON THE ODOMETER. EVERYTING ON THIS VEHICLE WORKS WELL. I TRAVEL TO THROUGH THE SNOWY MOUNTAINS OF NEW MEXCIO, COLORADO AND UTAH ON A REGULAR BASIS AND HAVENT COME CLOSE YET TO GETTING STUCK. THE ENGINEERS AT JEEP DID THEIR HOMEWORK WHEN THEY DESIGNED THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE OWNED FORD EXPLORERS AND TOYOTA 4 RUNNERS AND THIS VEHCILE DEFINITELY PROVIDES THE BEST VALUE FOR THE BUCK. I DEFINITELY RECOMEND THIS VEHICLE.

  • GREAT CAR FEW PROBLEMS - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I purchased my liberty after doing a lot of research. I already knew about the gas milage but I was willing to compromise. It had everything I wanted at the right price. I have had just one problem. Since I have had the car its staled on me 3 times while parking.
