This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

  • Beware of 3.7 - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Absolutely loved the vehicle, turning radius was incredible, seats very comfortable, power was more than adequate, absolutely loved our Renegade UNTIL at 85,000 the engine seized up at a stoplight, never to run again. Web search indicates there seems to be a random behavior of these engines gumming up no matter how religiously you change the oil and filters or how well you maintain the vehicle. Most disappointed. After five years, the vehicle is worth $1000 as SALVAGE.

I use this Jeep both on and off road. Superior to my Forester especially in mud. Gets 23 hwy and 18 city. So far at 20k no problems, ride is good and I can pull a horse trailer with it.

We like our Jeep more every time we drive it. We now have 7,100 miles, and have gotten 21.7 mpg with A/C at 70 mph. We had a recall on the engine computer; at first we got 14 to 16.5 mpg and were concerned, but reprogramming fixed it. The heated seats are great. The tire pressure on the overhead really works, saved us a flat. Everything works great, no problems. Style inside and out is well done. This is a solid, smooth riding, top notch 4X4. Perhaps the best of any car or truck we have ever had. We like the new front end, and the radio controls on the steering wheel, the leather seats, and the power sun roof. Everything exceeds our expectations, even the price was more than fair.

It handles great, and maneuvers like a car. Easy to see all around, even for short people (5.3"). Small turning radius.

  • Happy.......with a few quirks - 2005 Jeep Liberty

In the over-all we love our liberty! Mpgs are not stellar but considering shes a go any where 4x4 and 5400 lbs., not bad! No Major problems but the factory specified routine maintenance costs a small fortune. Fun, safe, peppy (3.7l) comfortable and capable on road and off. One annoying rattle emanating from the rear swing- gate/Glass region with no resolution to the problem in sight, many liberty owners with the same complaint! Very maddening considering a 24k price tag! Maybe "its a Jeep thing" haha. Other than that were pleased, lets hope it has the longevity of the Honda crv that we chose it over! Long live the liberty!

I worked for a Jeep dealership & I love the Grand Cherokee. But the Liberty is so much fun to drive. It has that European style handling and driving. I wish it got better gas mileage. Dont like the front end on the 2005s. My 2004 looks robust and demanding me to drive it. And I do.

Ya know someone said they would rather have a toyota, yeah go ahead itll be recalled in no time. I did have a foreign car before I got my Jeep. But I hated it, it was awful on the highway. Ive had no problems with my jeep with the past five years that Ive had it. And here I am almost 100,000 miles later and Im still driving it. And I actually started a trend because right after, I let both my sisters, my best friend and my cousin drive it and ya know what they traded in their foreign cars for a JEEP as well. And Im not trying to be mean, but maybe yall dont know how to drive. The only thing I dont like are the seats, but if thats the price I have to pay to buy AMERICAN so be it!

  • Good Vehicle - 2005 Jeep Liberty

The Jeep Liberty is a good vehicle for both city/highway driving. I havent offroaded it yet so cant comment on that. The interior is spacious and my only complaint is that the glove compartment is too small and the power window buttons are between the front seats rather than on the doors. It has excellent pickup and I do get 20mpg with highway driving and around 14-16mpg on city driving. There are times when Ive felt the vehicle slightly tilt when I make sharp turns but then, you should careful when making turns at high speeds. On the whole, I love my Liberty and am looking forward to go offroading with it.

  • DREAM COME TRUE ,YAHOO! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Although I just recently purchased my Jeep Liberty Sport I can tell you already this is the vehicle Ive been waiting for. With all the reviews Ive read, nothing compares to getting behind the wheel of this machine and putting it in drive. The amount of power it displays from a standstill for a v6 is comparable to some gas guzzling v8s Ive owned and the handling is worthy to say the least . The interior is very comfortable for a large man (63" 240) and at the same time compact enough for my 9 year old daughter not to feel stuck in the back. Overall I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a vehicle to get the juices flowing or to get the kids to school.
