Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

I have never had any trouble with owning a Jeep. This is now the second Jeep Liberty that I have owned. I have noticed that the 2005 model drives a little smoother. I have noticed that when the wind is blowing hard and driving on the highway that the change in the suspension has helped out tremendously in the new model. Also, they put the window controls in a smarter place in the 2005 model. But you could never go wrong with a Jeep!

Despite poor gas mileage I would buy this car in an instant again. It is extremely comfortable and fun to drive. The steering wheel radio controls and heated seats make it an extra nice drive! The information panel makes me feel safe and updated on whats going on with the car, problems or needed maintenance.

Bought my Liberty Renegade used - 40k miles on it. There are some minor quirks to it I find annoying, but overall I love my Liberty! I found documentation in my owners manual from the previous owner- apparently the transmission issue was handled by him (Thank You!). This Jeep is a ball to drive and handles better than any SUV Ive ever driven. One note: Lose the Goodyear RS tires. They slip on wet roads; they wont get the opportunity to try snow/ice. No way!

  • Not everyone lives in the city. - 2008 Jeep Liberty

We needed a rugged vehicle to negotiate the gravel road and creek crossing into our place in the Ouachita Mountains. Also needed it to pull our 3500# 17 Casita travel trailer. With its 5000# tow rating, this Jeep Liberty Sport more than fills the bill on all counts. My wife, the primary driver of this vehicle, selected the Liberty Sport. She did well! Fuel mileage cant be compared to a RAV-4, but the Jeep will do things the Rav-4 wouldnt dream of. But,we got 22 MPG on the first tank of mixed city/highway and that aint bad for a 3.7 L V-6 engine with automatic tranny. After 5 weeks and 2310 miles, we couldnt be happier with this car. Its our first Jeep product.

Ive had a 2005 Rocky Mountain Edition and traded it in for my 2007. I love it. The seats are more comfortable than 2005 and got all the options. Actually have better gas mileage this time around.

  • Youll never get me out of a Liberty - 2002 Jeep Liberty

This is not a vehicle for folks who want the immenities of a Lincoln Town Car but have more room. The Liberty is a Jeep through and through and doesnt pretend to be anything else. The Liberty gives you anything you could ask for in the "utility" department (handling, room, features, dependabilty). I have had no complaints regarding anything dealing with the functionality of the Liberty. Plus, it is one of the most dependable vehicles I have ever owned. Avg 17 mpg, but that is the exact rating, cant complain. Summary: dependable, functional, fun, comfortable, inexpensive.

i love my jeep! I had a honda for 10years! I wanted a suv that was affordable fun to drive, and not a wimpy 4cylinder! I decided to go with the jeep because it was just the right size for me! NOT HUGE NOT TOO SMALL!
