Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

  • Maybe I got a bad one? - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I think I may have just got a bad one. The under side is all rusty looking, Brakes moan when backing up, been in the shop 4 times and had a transmission part replaced. Still does not always shift and downshift right. Too much road noise. Missing a lig nut. Make sure you get a good one.

I bought my liberty used with 36,000 miles on it last January. It now has 46,000. All my Windows have broken, when the back left door window broke it fell down inside my door & shattered ( this happened going down the road in the winter ) I have all of my Windows ratchet strapped up with the door panels off because its the only way to keep them from breaking because every time they are replaced. They break again. I though I would love this SUV but it has been a nightmare, I would not recommend a Jeep to anyone. Its a p. O. S. To put it nicely :) I will never buy or own another Jeep once Im able to trade this one in.

  • Buyer Beware - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

All I can say is what a piece of junk. Bought new, but back rear spring broke at 3k miles, repalce egk valve at 10k miles, loud rattle in back end that dealership never could figure out, replaced rear brakes at 14k miles, one rotor replaced at 18k miles, heater smells like burnt wiring, blower fan replaced, front passenger window regulator replaced 4 times, both back Windows each replaced 2 times.updated regulator that was suppose to fix the problem didnt. Both back Windows replaced again. Dealership lied. Never could get any help from Chrysler. Traded it before warranty expired and bought a Toyota RAV which I have put over 18k miles without problem.

  • Worse Jeep Made - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I purchased my 2006 Liberty new. The seats stain easily and do not come clean. I have 26,000 miles on mine and the steering is starting to get some play, and it isnt driven off-road. Had to have window regulators replaced 10 times, every window has fallen down twice and now I am on 3 times for a couple. In fact I have one down now. I have always been a Jeep guy, but they lost my business. As soon as it is out of warranty I am getting rid of it. Also, my rear interior light comes on every now and then for no reason. Chrysler should be ashamed of their vehicles.

  • 1 year with jeep - 2004 Jeep Liberty

Put a lot of miles on Liberty and has been very reliable. Transmission, however, is awful. Never seems to know what gear it is in and performance is sluggish. Worst problem, however, is the poor handling on wet roads. I have changed tires but it has not helped. I have owned a lot of SUVs but have never had a problem like this. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Window Regulator - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

So, I took my 2006 Jeep Liberty to the dealer on 09/09/2010 because the front drivers side window regulator is shot. Cost me $595 to repair a problem that Jeep knows about. In fact, I was told they redesigned the regulator, and they put the newly- designed regulator in my Jeep. Why do I have to pay for something that Jeep knows was improperly designed? Jeep will not recall the vehicles because the regulator is not a "safety issue". Im now waiting to hear from Jeeps customer service as to whether Im going to get reimbursed. This is very poor customer relations at the least. Jeep should be replacing these regulators for free.

  • The Worst Car Ever - 2010 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Bought the car 2 months ago. Its been in the shop 5 times already. The heat stops working every time. Customer service is terrible. Corporate is unavailable. The car was a waste of money. Daimler Chrysler will not do anything for me. They should take the car back because that is the right thing to do. Daimler Chrysler said that they wouldnt. This car is unsafe and unreliable. Nobody should purchase one if they dont want the burden of a really bad headache.

we do not like where the window buttons are. they should have left them on the door just like all the other jeeps like the limited we own we will not buy onother jeep lik this. also when you push on the gas you go no where, it uses just as much almost as our 5.2 liter, they should offer the 4.0 in the liberty.

  • Big Disappointment! - 2007 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I purchased a 2007 Jeep Liberty with 29,000 miles in 2010. I had previously owned a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport and loved it so decided to trade up to the Liberty. What a disappointment! At 33,000 miles (just out of warranty) I had to replace the front drive shaft, all four windows have been replaced, the rear wiper doesnt work, the rear door latch comes apart every 5,000 miles and wont open till we take off the door panel and fix it, the front drive shaft is vibrating again (same as before we replaced it), the transmission doesnt shift properly, and we get a lousy 14 mpg. Our local dealer cant find anything wrong with it. Ill never own another Jeep!
