Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

  • Great Jeep - 2004 Jeep Liberty

One of the main things that sold me on the Jeep Liberty over other similar vehicles was the fit & finish and build quality. No rattles, squeaks, or anything. Very solidly built. More so than many higher priced cars. It is also a great buy as it has many standard features, a powerful 3.7L engine which actually sounds like it has power, and a nice look.

  • Kudos for Jeep - 2003 Jeep Liberty

The 2003 Jeep Limited is my second Liberty. A few weeks before I purchased this one, my 2002 Liberty was totaled in an accident when a driver ran through a red light and hit me. The engine took the brunt of the hit -- I didnt. Im convinced the rugged construction saved me. And the Liberty is extremely comfortable on my 5-hour trips to Vermont. It handles well, is a blast to drive, and, after all, its a Jeep. It can go just about anywhere my heart desires. Want fun? Take a Jeep off the beaten track and see what it can do. I love my Jeep Liberty!!

I love my Jeep Liberty. Found that I need to be careful on slippery roads, but it has a lot of get up and go and is fun to drive.

seats are cloth and must not have been scotguarded as cleaning them with plain water leaves a stain as large as the water applied have had them steamed cleaned once and they need it again i have alway been able to keep my vechile seats clean but not these seats also interrior lights flash on and off while driving and all door are shut other than that i like my jeep but if the seat ploblem is common to this vechile i would not buy another one i reguested cloth seats because i have children an do not care for leather

  • Love it so far - 2004 Jeep Liberty

Bought it back in June and I really like it so far. My only complaint is the positioning of the sun visors. Since the roof has padding, the visors dont sit up against the windsheild in a manner that allows taller people to see properly. This means that to use them I have to point them at me. Aside from that, I really like the vehicle a lot. I live in a mountainous area and am up on mountain dirt roads on a somewhat regular basis. I have no problems with any of it. The V6 provides enough pick up to get up to highway speeds without gunning the engine, and the engine is powerful enough to take you almost anywhere.

  • Not a car-like SUV - 2005 Jeep Liberty
    By -

What a great Jeep vehicle. Its definitely not a boring car-like SUV that gets stuck in the middle of a mud pool. This thing will go anywhere. Its more like a Jeep, instead of a car. And thats why I bought it. If you would like a comfy SUV with smooth suspension and luxurious finish, this is not the car for you. This is a sturdy car, for people to go play off-road first, and bring the groceries back later.

  • Jeep = (Cheap) Liberty - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I purchased this Liberty Using the end of year incentives and Affiliate awards discount, BIG MISTAKE!. I should have dished out some extra $ and purchased a Japanese import. The jeep is seriusly lacking options, It is the most uncomfortable vehiche I have ever owned. It gets only about 15 mpg on avrtage, the best I ever got doing srticly highway was 18 mpg. Tje interior is made from cheap soft plastic that scratches easely with a finger nail, non of the cloth or carpets are protected (Scotchguarded). The paint/clearcoat mares easely just from leaves and bird droppings. The interior is lacking legspace and is poorly designed (lots of wasted space. The exterior pannels hold lots of water

  • Window regulators - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Ive had my jeep since 2006. Ive had to replace 3 window regulators already and now the fourth has gone out. The regulators should have been recalled and fixed. I called to get a price on a new regulator and its gone from 64.00 to 167.00 for the part which is ridiculous! I went through 4-5 recalls the first year I had this vehicle. I did really want to have a jeep now I cant wait to get rid of it. I will NEVER buy another jeep! What was supposedly once a great vehicle to have has become a cheaply made piece of crap. Ive heard from so many people that theyve had the same problems with the windows! Plus now my vehicle is only worth half of what I still owe on it. Horrible resale value!

  • JEEP SHAME - 2004 Jeep Liberty

Lacks power acceleration as a result of hesitation problem. Computer software updated without resolution. Clunking and popping noise from rearend. Excessive engine noise. Transmission shifts are harsh and abrupt at best. Solenoid noise when stopping or shifting the auto select lever. Chrome wheels are cheap plastic.

I LOVE this car! I wanted something that wasnt too "soccer momish" and this is PERFECT! Handles very much like a truck, but that was also what I wanted.
