Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

I bought this car new and in the first week the transmission was bad. I wanted the car replaced but was forced to replace the transmission. Thr "new" transmission is hard to put in 1st and sometimes reverse. The spark plugs have had to be replaced and the rear differential had a leak.

Great looks and fun to drive! I was really impressed with the way this compact SUV handles. It might be a little stiff in the suspension for some people, but it feels solid. The doors and hatch close easy. Fit and finish is great and it is a beauty. I have the Atlantic Blue color with a sun roof. This Liberty is one of the best cars I have owned. Road clearance is great without using a ladder to get into the drivers seat. The tires have an aggressive tread without producing the typical tire noise. A "Off road" beauty with comfort and style. Although I am biased, I am a owner!

I bought this vehicle as a down grade from my new Overland, or at least I thought I was at the time. This Renegade is more stylish, loves having extras put on and it and attract lots of looks.

  • Sky Slider is awesome - 2008 Jeep Liberty

I purchased a Limited with a Sky Slider top, which I have to say is awesome. Nice to be one with nature. The 5 star frontal and side crash rating was a big plus. The ride is great, handles great in snow and ice...even better than my Grand Cherokee. Inside is roomy and comfortable, even for my 6 ft plus 16 year old son. I have the Limited fully loaded. For a Jeep, the new Liberty feels more like a luxurious crossover. It gets a lot of looks from people...sharp looking! I would purchase this vehicle all over again. The MyGig, Sirius radio and Sirius Traffic, heated seats and mirrors, remote start, navigation are wonderful options! Its a trail rated Jeep, what more can one expect?!

I had been wanting a Jeep Liberty since they first debuted. I can remember the first time I saw one on the road. I was like...."Wow." So it was really the exterior appearance that struck me. The front end is so gorgeous. Especially on the new ones with the chrome grille. (Mine is a 2005 Limited.) It runs well, accelerates well, and you feel safe travelling on the interstate at high speeds, unlike on some other smaller SUVs, where you feel like you are all over the road. I had a 2000 Chevy Tracker, and to go from that to this Liberty is a total improvement. It handles well. I havent had a chance to test out the 4 WD extenxively yet, or operate in the snow.

  • I will continue to buy a Jeep Vehicle - 2004 Jeep Liberty

I love my jeep. It is a great family suv. I replaced the goodyear tires that were on it when i bought it, and put Mastercraft Courser A/T2 on it, and my wife and I have never really had to use the 4wd on it. Does job in the mud. Trans, Motor, Drivetrain heavy duty built. A oil change gets done every 3000 miles. The vehicle only had 34000 miles on it when i bought it in April 2008. MPGs good, could be better. I would absolutely recommend this vehicle to anyone, especially if you want a jeep that handles well, rugged 4wd. I do wash it every weekend, and wax it twice a month, and it still looks like new.

  • Hate it. - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I have had my Jeep Liberty a little over two years and have had it at the shop five times because the motors on the windows are failing. Now the back hatch is rattling and the dealership cannot find anything wrong. I only have about 20,000 miles on the Jeep and the windows get very little use. Whats the deal? I will not buy another Chrysler product. I should have learned my lesson with the Dodge Durango!
