Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

  • Disapointed - 2002 Jeep Liberty

I put very few miles on this car every year. In the time Ive owned it Ive had to replace the brake rotors twice, drivers side front wheel hub, once and the the ball joints were replaced by the dealer (Recall)the fuel mileage is @ 14.5 miles/gal needs improvement. Ill never buy another Jeep again, Chrysler products are questionable as to whether or not I will buy anymore, and that comes from a guy who has sworn by Chrysler products for alot of years. As for the Milford Ct dealer that sold me the car- they will never see another dime of my money.

I am very happy with my choice of SUVs in the Jeep Liberty. The only negative is that I dont feel as safe when highway driving. I keep thinking of the rollover safety rating (poor)!!

Intentions was not to buy the Jeep as a matter of fact, I say it on the show room floor like the color and the options so decided to buy. My wife looks straight ahead when she drives and because of that hits about every pot hole. The ruggedness of the vehicle is a plus. The first year took a 2000 mile trip and got right around 25.1 mpg. I change the oil every 3000 mile and rotate the tires every 5000. Got all five tires filled with nitrogen and it helps. Last year we went to Ocean City Maryland roughly 1200 miles and got 23- 24 mpg. Bought seat covers when we got it so no problem with stains. Also no problems with the windows. One door you can hear air when highway driving.

Drive those overweighted, bulky, over priced Tahoes, Yukons and Suburbans over the CLIFF! Slip into this off road warrior with civilized highway performance. Dependable power, tork and speed with a refined 3.7 litre power plant. Forget about towing the camper, BRING ON THE ENTIRE HOUSE, ALONG WITH WIFE AND KIDS!

  • My wifes Jeep Liberty LTD ia a lemon - 2002 Jeep Liberty

My wife loved this Jeep from the beginning, every year her love has lessened to the point now where she would give it away. Numerious problems, most not covered under manufacturers warranties. Weve "sunk" several thousands of dollars into this beast. Gas mileage is worse than a RR!

  • Fun - 2004 Jeep Liberty

I still love this Jeep. The only problem I have had is the rear glass switch shorted out. I drive this thing hard so I only get about 17 to 20 mpg. I still tell people if they want a great little suv buy a liberty.

Ive owned a Bronco2 and a Blazer and both of them handled like a truck. My Liberty handles quite well on the street and suits my needs perfectly. Its fun to drive with a comfortable interior and plenty of power when its needed

This is not my first SUV. This Jeep far surpasses any other SUV in comfort and style. I chose this Jeep because it ad all the luxuries of more expensive SUVs at a much lower price. The engine is sound and the ride is smooth. This is the quality vehicle Jeeps are known for.

  • Love it - 2010 Jeep Liberty

Had a 2007 Jeep Liberty hated it. Feel in love with the 2009 Jeep Liberty. Got one about 4 months ago am so happy with it. Had several people tell me how much they like it. So, all I have to say I love my 2009 Jeep Liberty. So much more room in it and bigger. Truly do love it.

  • Great - 2005 Jeep Liberty

The drive is not harsh or truck like, much better than I expected having riden in earlier model jeeps. Also the total construction is solid, I can see how you could take one off road come back on the road and not finding rattles all over the vehicle from the bouncing. Its really put together tight.
