Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

Jeep Liberty is FUN to drive, especially in adverse conditions, ie. heavy snowfall, and offroad. It is a pleasure to drive onroad, especially with the kids in the backseat. Great view of the road, a breeze to steer and tight turning radius. Breaks are magnificent, I had to lay on them once, and they came through when I thought I was going to end up in the trunk of the car in front of me who stopped past their turn. VERY IMPRESSIVE!

My first Jeep. Ive owned other 4X4s. I need one for winter driving in Alaska. My new Liberty five speed with a V6 is perky and fun to drive. It pulls a little to the right, which I dont understand why. I took it to the dealer and they said it was an alignment problem. I got it back, and it still pulls to the right! So... another trip to the mechanic needs to be scheduled. That is a real time waster for me, but Ill get to that before too long. Hopefully they will get it straightened out! Other than that, it handles great, especially on the winter roads in Alaska!

Absolutely love the vehicle, so far. Bought it in July. The only thing that I havent really enjoyed is the fact that when I filled it the first time, and calculated the miles per gallon, it was at 15. I traded a Hyundai Elantra to get it, and I am used to about 25 mpg. It definitely does take a lot of gas, but if you dont drive a lot, its the perfect vehicle.

I bought a Rocky Mountain edition Jeep Liberty and I love it. I test drove the 2004 Grand Cherokee and I have to say the Liberty drove much better. The 3.7 V6 puts out excellent power and is very reliable. I would recommend this vehicle to anybody who wants to get a lot for their money. Power, versatility, and reliability cant be beat by the competitors.

Ive had my Liberty Limited for just over a week now and I absolutely love it. The ride is smooth (especially compared to the Cherokee Sport that my boyfriend has)and I love the added headroom and overall roomier feel than the Cherokee. The leather seats are quite comfortable too. I originally wanted leather seats to make it easier to clean up the dog hair generated by my 3 terriers...but now I love my new Liberty so much that they arent allowed in it! We are only getting flurries today but Im eager for it to snow so I can test out the 4wd!

Excellent choice for a smaller SUV. Coming off a Montero Sport the Jeep handles well even if its taller. Great display panel and having the radio,CD,&casette controls on the stering wheel cant be beat. Love the quick flip rear glass window and the side pull door. This won out the selection process over the Madza Tribute, Outlander, and Freelander.

The vehicle is a pleasure to drive; with all controls easily accessable to the driver. Handling and response is better than the Cherokee, which it replaced. The four-wheel Select-Trac is superb, and the short body over-hang front and rear allows for steep entry and exit angles when in hilly terrain.

The body is rugged. The interior of the Jeep Liberty Limited is comfortable, but can be a little small for anyone over 510". It offers power heated seats as well as heated side view mirrors and engine block.

  • Power Window Issues - 2007 Jeep Liberty

I purchased my Jeep in October of 09. Its an 07 model and in three months of ownership Ive had my jeep into the dealership four times for repair to the power windows...specifically the Drivers side window but Ive had problems with the passenger window as well. It appears that the issue is not with the dealership making the repairs, but with Chrysler supplying inadequate window regulators and plastic parts that dont hold up. Ive written Chrysler with my concerns and have not yet received a response. Im wondering if others that have experienced these window issues have been able to get corrective action from Chrysler? After some extensive research of various models, my wife and I settled on the Liberty because of the price range and the power. We live in Colorado, and a little punch getting into the mountains and navigating the passes is a plus. I was really surprised with the amount of room in the back, me being about 6 I had a good 3" of head room and my legs werent crammed. We got the Sport Model with the "B" options package (AC, Power Windows, Locks, etc). Overall a good buy for someone who will use the power and offroad features of this car in addition to everyday use.
