Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

  • engine light - 2002 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I bought a 2002 Jeep liberty as a pre owned car. Older lady drove it. So far we had no major problem except the engine light stays on. Took it to auto parts store did test and it said fuel cap. replaced that 3 times. Nothing. took it to dealer same result, they checked the car and found nothing told me fuel cap again. Bought another cap from them and light is still on. At 114000 miles it seems to start taken more and more gas..wet roads are also not a good thing. other then that I like to drive it and its been a good car so far

  • Love it so far - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Granted that I only got it several days ago, I so far love the jeep. I have not had any issue with the windows...yet but all these reviews scare me haha... I went from a 2 door sunfire and loved it but wanted one of these jeeps since they came out! the gas mileage is what i expected, the 4x4 is a bear in the snow. the four doors is what i missed the most. so far i enjoy the jeep and hope it keeps up.

  • Fed Up and frustrated - 2009 Jeep Liberty

Seven months after I Purchased my Jeep Liberty Limited, I started and could not get out of park. The wipers kept going and would not turn off, no lights and nothing on the dash worked.Anyhow I had it towed to the dealer who couldnt pin point the actual problem. I got it back five days after. Now the problem reoccurred for the second time, had to get it towed because Im stuck in P again and again they cant pinpoint the problem. Im afraid to drive it and I am ready to get rid of it. I really liked the Jeep and my other concern is that I still cant find a comfortable seat position to drive. When I use the 4wd on R it wouldnt go anywhere. I wondering if this is an isolated case

  • SEATS stain from WATER - 2006 Jeep Liberty

My 2007 Liberty seats look filthy from stains brought on by water! Embarrassing to have passengers to see the seats! JEEP needs to recall these seats and do something about the ridiculous(ness) of the easily stained cloth that repels nothing!!!

  • Best Vehicle Ive Ever Had! - 2003 Jeep Liberty

We sadly have to exchange our Jeep Liberty in for a more fuel efficient vehicle because we live about half an hour to 45 minutes away from work. Other than that reason alone, we would not be looking for a car. The Jeep Liberty has been the most fun and the most reliable vehicle I have ever driven.

  • My first vehical PURCHASE - 2003 Jeep Liberty

This is my first vehicle purchase, after leasing a Ford Escort---followed by a Ford Explorer for 3 years. I had bad experiences with my first Jeep in 1990. My 2003 Liberty Limited is absolutely AWESOME!

  • Jeep thing!!! - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I love my jeep liberty.. the only thing I would complain about is that every jeep liberty owner that Ive talked to has had the same problem.. they develope a squeaking noise after the first year thats attributed to the water pump.. That can be a little annoying...Other than that I love my jeep,it does very good in the snow and the mud.. I love it!!!

  • A GREAT CAR - 2003 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I just bought my jeep Liberty renegade and its so much fun to drive, it is a very comfortable car, a great sound system, it has amazing handling, and makes you feel totally in control of the road without being too huge & bulky. Even though its a gas and mileage eater I absolutely love my car because all the other elements this car has to offer far surpass that. I can drive over a curb like a piece of paper ... he he....

  • I looooove My Jeep! - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I bought my Jeep two and a half years ago. I still love it as much today as the first day I owned it. It is very reliable and the gas mileage is really good (considering that its an SUV). The mileage I get is about what was listed on the sticker. When I need another car, Ill probably buy another Liberty.

  • Its a Jeep. Realize that and youll love it. - 2011 Jeep Liberty
    By -

My first Jeep & its everything I expected. Only have had it three weeks - about 800 miles. Gas mileage is 15-16 mix -stop and go and highway- Dont consider that bad for a 6 cylinder Jeep that weighs 4000 lbs. The interior is comfortable, not luxurious; its a Jeep. Love the exterior & the Blackberry is a great color. Yes its a tad slow from a deadstop, but passing ability is great and it feels like a solid vehicle. Great in snow. Slight body lean, but its a Jeep. Technology is good. Like the new "ECO" mode, keeps you aware of how youre driving. So far no performance or other issues. Its fun to drive, has plenty of room & looks cool. Im happy I bought it!
