Overview & Reviews
Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.
Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

Car is a Death Trap - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By LibertyDeathTrap - August 30 - 2:00 amThis car was the worse purchase ever. 3 months after driving it, the Steering gave out and it flipped me into a ditch. Dont buy unless you wanna risk death, and the fuel economy will put a hurting on your wallet.

Libertys - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By jfo - August 30 - 2:00 amI own two Libertys, both 2003. They have been great. Only thing Id change is the original Goodyear tires--the tread is too aggressive if you arent primarily going to drive off-road. This makes it louder than necessary and a little slick in rain.

Never Again - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By mellen40 - August 30 - 2:00 amI asked to try a manual 6 cyl. I went for a ride around the block. It was sweet. The purchase went wrong from the start.Getting on the interstae, it could not get up to speed to blend into traffic. My heart was in my throat. Chris Myers exchanged the oops 4 cyl. they sold to me as a 6 cyl. I havent been satisfied since. Ive had difficulty with the back hatch doorlock since I bought it. They "fixed it" but still wont unlock at times. The purchase agreement was to have a roof rack installed that I could leave on or remove as I wanted. They put on a skimpy aftermarket roof rack screwed to the roof. It looks sad!

JEEP WINS - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By StarINSIGHTS - August 30 - 2:00 amAfter spending 5 hrs to get the price down to the sticker We were happy to depart the dealer. The dealer tried to addon features that were already installed and we were buying the sticker price not the dealership. We got home safe and wokeup to 1 foot of snow and went 4 wheeling all day. VERY good compact 4 wheeler JEEP!After test driving a Nissan Xtra, WE were knew Jeep was the Winning 4x4. Just watch the add ons that are not part of the sticker price and opt, also no deal on 72 month 0%, it is a marketing tool.
