This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

  • My First Non-Honda - 2005 Jeep Liberty

We have owned at least one Honda in our family since 1978. When it came time to buy an S.U.V., we naturally looked at Element and CR-V. We also looked at Jeep Liberty. Friends are amazed that my steadfast consumer loyalty was upended by a Non-Honda. We are finding the Jeep Liberty to be fun to drive, a tough performer, and of course one of the cutest vehicles on the road. 6 CD changer, Infinity speakers, moon-roof, Command-Trac. Options all well worth it. I only wish I had gone with the upgraded wheels. Not as economical on gas as Honda, but hey...what price beauty?

  • Great all-around small family SUV - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Great little family SUV if you need real off-road performance. Bought it used with 50,000 miles and now three years later with 107,000 miles have had to do nothing but routine maintenance. Just drove it across country (3,600 miles in one week) with no issues going 80+ mph. I change the oil & filter every 6,000mi along with tire rotation and alignment; all other fluids every 30,000 miles and it still drives and runs like new. Has plenty of power and even more torque, no problem passing when needed. Have used it off-road almost everyweekend for three years and always gets me there and back. Handles 12+ inches of snow or mud with ease and has no issues in two feet of water.

Bought this 2.4L, 6 speed manual brand new and have driven 103k miles in 4 yrs. I love driving this Jeep! It is a tough little 4WD - not to be confused with AWD. The 4 cyl is not fast but is very strong. 6 speed transmission gives good control of power. Great tight turning radius; I can bang U-eys anywhere! Seats do stain easily, but interior finish and quality is very good. I like having power window controls on the center console. Excellent visibility. Also like having a rear window that flips open. Would like to buy a new Liberty but they are bigger, pricier, automatic only, and 6 cyl only, so Im sticking with my funmobile.

  • LOOKS GREAT -- SPUNKY DRIVING CAR - 2005 Jeep Liberty

This is second Jeep Liberty Limited for me; first was 2002 model. This 2005 model is 4 times better. Got the ABS as well as the chrome wheels. Since it is black, looks greater as has the chrome grill and rack on top. Added chrome step bars and gets lots of looks and questions on it. This model gets better gas mileage than the 2002 model. Wife likes to drive and ride in this one more than her Cadillac.

  • AWESOME SUV! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

We purchased a 2005 Jeep Liberty just two months ago after researching SUVs. Living in SoCal, with an active lifestyle, we wanted agility, durability, and room for our family of four. We just hated those gigantic SUVs that bully people on the highways and are used as status symbols. The Jeep Liberty was the perfect fit for us. It is agile and sturdy and loads of fun. We do not mind sitting in SoCal traffic in our happy blue Jeep. It is not a cookie cutter behemoth SUV. If you are looking to please yourself and your wallet as opposed to spending an extra $20,000-$40,000 more to impress your neighbors and co-workers,this is the SUV to purchase.Easy on gas, despite the article. I am in LOVE!

  • I Love My Jeep! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

This is my second Jeep Liberty and I love it. Its sporty, rugged, loads of fun and has POWER! Forget those wimpy car like SUVs, this Jeep is great. I would buy again. Oh, and you cant beat the price loaded.

  • Renegade rules! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I wasnt necessarily looking for a Jeep, but this model really caught my eye. Im really happy I chose this vehicle over others. All the features and comforts of other Liberty models, (actually most vehicles) are here. It is WAY better than the Sport Model I had as a loaner during service. Spend the few extra $$$ for this model. Its a superior value over the other Libertys/other vehicles in its price range! Its a lot bigger than it looks. Park it next to a minivan or pull up next to some of those really "large" SUVs or pickups. Its right there! Again, I wasnt actually out to buy this one, but I am glad that I did! And then there was this winters snow and rain. It paid for itself!

  • Jeep recommendations for improvement - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Love the style, ease of handling, value for money. Diesel fuel could be cheaper and Im not sure we are getting the fuel efficiency advertised. We only get about 420 miles per tank as of now. I believe the advertised 500 miles per tank is misleading.

  • Best Little SUV! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

My wife and I test drove just about everything and settled on the Kia Sorento or the Liberty, We were able to drive both back to back. The Liberty has a tighter feel, the Kia was bouncy and felt sluggish. The liberty felt snappy. I like the fact that you can hear the engine. We couldnt get all the options we wanted in one vehicle. We wanted the off-road group and the towning package and got neither. It took over 5 hours to complete the deal!! I still cant belive it. we are glad we have a real Jeep!
