Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

  • Happy So Far - 2010 Jeep Liberty

Traded my 1999 Durango that I bought new. Only had 87,000 on it, but I new issues were coming. Have a 2009 Suzuki SX4 Crossover that we LOVE. Looked at the GV and the Equator double cab. Wouldnt budge enough on price. Checked Subaru and Toyota. Was getting tough to find a mid-sized, affordable TRUCK-LIKE SUV, like my Durango was. Have never looked at or considered Jeep before. The front seats are VERY comfortable. Love the driving position. Sits up, great view, and is a "commanding" position. Nice 2nd row space and cargo space. Back seats fold flat, and lock! Engine seems a little loud. But this is their tried and true Jeep engine so well see. But so far, very happy with it.

  • Great SUV! - 2007 Jeep Liberty

Have about 1000 miles on the Liberty. So far most of the driving has been in the city. To date the city driving mpg has been 17. Overall we are very happy with the new jeep. My first jeep and the way things are going it wont be our last.

  • Love our Jeep Liberty!! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

We just bought a used Liberty and we love it! The back door is my favorite feature. Its comfortable to drive, theres plenty of power and gas mileage is good. It drives like a Jeep, not like a car, which is what we we wanted and were expecting. If you want a great little Jeep to take off road and to the store, get a Liberty! Buy American!

  • My Jeep is a SUV, your SUV is not a Jeep - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Aside from a small reprogramming problem related to a switch of tires (which the dealership fixed the same day I got the vehicle), this is one incredible vehicle! Much better than my previous 2003 Jeep Liberty Limited. In less than 1 week of ownership Ive already pulled two cars out of ditches and pushed another one free. Off road it performs like a total champ (dont forget to turn off the ESP!).

  • Love my Jeep Liberty Jet! - 2011 Jeep Liberty

Bought my Jeep Liberty Jet last month. I must say I am very please with my purchace! The interior is much more comfortable than my A4 I traded in on the jeep. Leather is very good quality along with the Infinity sound system. The ride quality is excellent again much better than my 06 A4. Exterior is great I love the Jet package with Chrome accents, Black out head lights, and 20" wheels! My dealer has been very good to me throughout the buying process even giving me 2 free fill ups and 4 free oil changes, because of a grease print a detailer left on the roof liner in the interior when they were cleaning (which they removed). Starting to feel a Miss at high speeds will be taking it tomorrow.

  • It is a GREAT Jeep - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I had a 96 Grand Cherokee Limited. Ready to buy a new car....I wanted something a bit smaller but still with power. I drove the LandRover Freelander & the Ford Escape and decided I liked the Jeep Liberty the best. The ergonomics of the Jeep are much better than any others of its size. The Power it has is great! Its a road hugger with weight so I feel very safe (unlike my friends Xterra which I feel like we are about to fall over when I ride in it) I drove the Liberty and loved it. It is not only hip but zippy and easy to maneuver around (much more so than my Grand Cherokee). I think that Jeep really did a great job with this Liberty.

  • Liberty CRD That NO ONE can fix. - 2005 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I have owned four Jeeps. This is the biggest "Hunk Of Junk" I have owned EVER!! multiple, multiple problems. To be fair, It is great when it is not in the shop. However, it has been in the shop 14 times in the first year. I have parked in my drive way and have a Lemon Law" Attorney. The dealership does not care and blow off all complaints. JEEP will not help. This Liberty Limited CRD stinks! Worst auto I have EVER owned. If you want to buy one, know your states "Lemon Law" and hire a GOOD Attorney because, youre going to need it! Jeep/Chrysler will do NOTHING & dealer ship blames Chrysler and ANOTHER RUN AROUND!

  • Def. a Jeep! - 2004 Jeep Liberty

I purchased this vehicle, replacing a very large and gas hogging Full-size 4X4 truck, and am very pleased with my choice. Roomy, fun to drive, lots of space for junk and stuff like that. Have had very little problems with it at all, besides regular maintenance. I joy to own and drive off road too!

  • 10 months and loving it... - 2002 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I have had my Jeep Liberty for 10 months now(bought it in June 2001). So far, so good. The only downfall is my choice in color, black. I hate the maintenance, but that would be with any black vehicle. It is my own fault! I have had a few problems with the recalls but i am aware of the fact that it is a new line of a vehicle.

  • Second Review - Love It! - 2003 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I love driving this car, in my first review I complained about a transmission issue which was actually a brake issue (needed new rotors) that was taken care of by my mechanic for a nice price with no problem. Overall, I love this car and I have no complaints with the exception of gas mileage. Id recommend anyone to buy it, and everyone whos been in mine loves it! This is my first SUV, my first Jeep and I will definitely buy a Jeep in the future. The Jeep Liberty Limited Edition gets an A+ from me.
