Overview & Reviews
Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.
Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

Love the Car! - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By Berrywood - November 21 - 1:03 amI love the looks and the performance of this SUV. The only problem with mine is the 2.4 L engine is too small to carry the weight of this vehicle, even using a 5 speed manual transmission. The fuel economy is the same or less than the 3.7 L automatic (of course, some of that is the way I drive, heh, heh!). I will definitely be buying another Liberty, but with the 3.7 L engine.

Love my Liberty - 2006 Jeep Liberty
By Love my Liberty - November 15 - 7:46 pmThere is a kinship with Jeep owners... kinda like Harley riders wave and greet each other, so do Jeep owners. We are an awesome breed of drivers. There is a certain pride that one has when they pull up to a ball field, full of moms in their vans...and this mom steps out of her Jeep... love it. A friend of mine liked to razz me by saying "Id rather push a Land Rover than drive a Jeep", well we went out shopping in her LR and it broke down and we ended up pushing it... loved it! Needless to say, she now drives a Jeep. Nothing like driving an American made, dependable, cute, tough, child friendly, animal friendly, classy, Jeep. God willing Ill always be a Jeep owner! I love my Jeep!

Its a Lemon... - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By clwoolst - November 11 - 2:56 amPurchased 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4 on 6/30/05 with 14 miles on it. Has been in the shop with a known transmission defect (but apparently undisclosed by manufacturer) for over a month. The release date for the repair has come and gone, but it is now on back order. Chrysler/Jeep will not stand behind product. Told me to sue them under lemon law. Think twice before you buy! At the very least verify that the vehicle you purchase was manufactured after April 2005.

Love it - 2007 Jeep Liberty
By justin - November 10 - 3:40 amI love my Jeep, I get 23 mpg and have few complaints. The window regulators will last longer if you clean out the track with a q-tip and then spray with a silicone lubricant.

Awesome rugged little beauty! - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By tiggitytony - November 4 - 2:00 amI just bought my 2003 Liberty Sport. So far, I have enjoyed driving it. For all those thinking of buying a liberty, I suggest getting the V6. This engine has a lot of power, even with a full load in the back, you dont feel it struggling. The 4WD system is very easy to use, very little effort to engage. The interior is great, the layout of the dashboard is simple and easy to use. The seats are firm and provide comfort and support. The exterior does a good job of showing its ruggedness, whoever says this Jeep is cute deserves to be shot - go drive your weak CRV/RAV4.
