Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

  • not just a jeep but a liberty - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I dont have enough space to list all of the things i like about this jeep, but i think it is worth a look. You couldnt find a better small SUV.

  • Great Choice - 2004 Jeep Liberty

I bought the Jeep for its looks. But I ended up getting a great handling, fun to drive vehicle. I was also very happy with the 0% financing. This was basically the final selling point between it and the Rav4.

  • Love this car! - 2002 Jeep Liberty

I have had two 2002 Libertys. A blue sport that I wrecked about a year ago. It was my first car. It had under 100k miles on it and ran like a dream. I had a back window part replaced due to the window not staying up and the ac fixed one time but thats it. My accident was my fault not the cars. My new Liberty, a black limited 4x4 of the same year is leaking and the ac has broken on it numerous times. I miss my original one and hate the mess ups with this one. Overall, as a brand and a car, I love them and never regret getting one.

  • Mines a GAS HOG! - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I absolutely love my Liberty -- I have had the best winter driving (in New England) of my LIFE this year! The Jeep is powerful and confident on snowy and slippery roads -- I rarely needed 4WD. However, I am only a townie driver, and I am averaging only 11-12 MPG. I am not kidding -- I tracked it. I am going to contact dealership to see if something is wrong.

  • CRD was a loser - 2005 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I purchased this Jeep liberty CRD new. Just after I got it they had a recall for the front wheel bearings and the torque converter and transmission front pump. Both were replaced under warranty. The next thing to go bad was the EGR valve which went bad after 35,000 miles. It was replaced under warranty. At about 45,000 miles I started having problems with the boost pressure sensor getting loaded up with carbon. I cleaned this and reinstalled and would go bad over and over. the EGR air flow control went bad, known to every one else as a throttle body. NOT covered under warranty. Last thing the fuel filter mount required to be replaced by Chrysler but will not pay or it. Good riddance Chrysler

  • 2005 Liberty has been in shop 3 times - 2005 Jeep Liberty

My 2005 Liberty Diesel has been in the shop 3 times for powertrain problems and on this last time the transmission completely went out. I only have 30k miles on the Jeep. This is a major concern for me as I work at Daimler Chrysler in a transmission plant. The first vehicle I ever bought was a Jeep and Ive stuck with them for past 9 years however after these problems I am strongly considering a new brand....

  • Its really a great JEEP! - 2002 Jeep Liberty

With the exception of recalls, that Jeep/Chrysler is taking care of, I love my Jeep Liberty. It is great in the mud and Snow in Northern NY and comfortable to drive to FL also!

It is a great town and country drive.

  • A good buy - 2008 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Ive owned my 2008 Liberty for over 3 months now. Consumer Reports does no justice for the Jeep. The ride is great, smooth and comfortable. Interior is well fit together. This Jeep is great for traveling, camping and just getting around. Gas mileage could be better. Sticker range is 16- 22 but I get 18-24. Consumer Reports also says that the engine is week and difficult to pass on the open road. Found that NOT to be true at all. Id recommend this over most in its class.

  • Second Jeep, Twice the vehicle - 2002 Jeep Liberty

Great vehicle, replaced my Cherokee which I was very fond of. I was apprehensive at first, but this is an amazing SUV for the price. Fun to drive.
