Overview & Reviews
Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.
Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

Never Buy Another One - 2006 Jeep Liberty
By Geraldine Ahrens - May 19 - 8:40 pmI probably wont buy any Chrysler product again. The windows of this Jeep have been fixed 5 times, (I see many other people have the same problem) and the car only has 15,000 miles on it. The panel for adjusting the mirrors keeps falling inside the door panel and has to be fished out. The dealership is good about fixing the windows, but what happens when the warranty runs out? The Jeep handles well on the road, the stabilizing feature works well, and overall I like driving it. This was my first American made car in years, (I have had VW, Nissan and Hyundai) but I am very disappointed in the craftsmanship of the quality of the Jeep.

By daveh - May 19 - 4:23 amThis is now the 3rd Jeep Ive owned (Wrangler, Cherokee, now Liberty) and I have to say its the best of the bunch. I manage to average 20.5 mpg which isnt great but it isnt all that bad either. I have the full time 4WD option which is very nice, especially in the rain.

I love my Liberty - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By Lulu Mac - May 18 - 10:00 amI love my Jeep Liberty. My first car was a sports car and I didnt feel safe in it. Two months to the day after I bought my Jeep I t-boned a girl doing almost 60 mph. I was hardly hurt, and my Jeep held up great! Dont get me wrong, it did over $10000 worth of damage, but had I been in my car, I would NOT have walked away with just cuts and bruises. I still feel EXTREMELY safe in my Jeep. My next vehicle will be ANOTHER Liberty!

By psa24 - May 18 - 7:46 amI have the Rocky Mountain edition of the 2004 Jeep Liberty. LOVE IT! Handles great. Moves when you want it to move. Drove like a dream in a foot and a half of snow. My wife drives this vehicle more than I do. But I love it so much I am buying another Jeep for myself.

Not for off road - 2002 Jeep Liberty
By Bob Denver - May 16 - 4:53 pmInterior is built from surprisingly cheap plastics, ergonomics are almost adequate, 4X4 system is “cloned” from previous Jeep models-it’s not doing good job in the snow since system can get easily confused by its anticipated traction, rear viper can be much better, engine is surprisingly good and very much agile, etc. In conclusion, do not take this vehicle serious as far as off road driving-do not believe to advertisements.

Stable, Stable, Stable - 2008 Jeep Liberty
By Satisfied Susie - May 13 - 3:26 amThis is the best handling car in the snow I have ever driven. I travel some very steep roads every day and my Liberty is a real pleasure to drive.

Hunk of junk - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By TravF - May 10 - 7:46 amI bought this Jeep with high hopes. Boy that got shattered. This thing has had more problems than I can count. First its not the dealerships mechanics fault but DC. They should give all repair facilities the equipment they need to fix them. Jeep has been in dealership more times than I ever could imagine. Took 11 months to fix the no start problem. Discovered it to be bad fuel injector. Had many parts replaced as a guess as to what was wrong. Terrible vehicle. I average 19 MPG. When first bought got upper 20S and 30+ on highway. After fixed now its 19!

By Marscan - May 9 - 6:10 am20 year Ford Explorer driver, never thought for a minute I would look at another brand. Fell in LOVE with my new Liberty at first sight, then knew I was driving it home after a test drive. Handles like a dream, excellent power, and lets be honest, its one hot lookin SUV!

2003 Liberty Sport - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By khurt1 - May 8 - 9:03 pmContrary to many of these negative Liberty reviews, I would like to say we love our Jeep. Milage is ~ 12L/100KM city, 9.5L Hwy loaded. It hauls my 19ft. travel trailer very well. Great in snow and ice. Major repairs: front rack and pinion unit @ ~ 120K kms. Mileage is now at ~ 150K kms. Bought vehicle at the end of 2008. No other major repairs.

BEST OF THE BEST - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By Angel - May 4 - 10:00 amThis is the must fun-to-ride vehicle I ever had, either on the sand or mud and of course on-road its behavior is incredible. I use to go off-road every weekend, and its a shame (for the other owners) but I had been paid for towing expensive Cadillacs, fords and others "4X4" SUVs.
