Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

  • Sky Slider Problems - 2008 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I bought my 2008 jeep liberty suv in May 2011. The sky slider (moonroom) very loud. Now yesterday March 28, 2012 the sky slider broke on the pasenger side. Took it to the jeep dealer today March 29, 2012, and was told that the rod that goes throught the track on the pasenger side was broke and needs to be replaced. Also I was told that it would cost $4-$5000.00 dollars to me its not worth fixing. So I found this site and am shocked to see all the reviews in reguards to this same year and problem. Thank you to one of the post and gave me the number to call DMV to report problem so maybe they will recall this. To those of you with this same issue please call this number 1-888-327-4236.

  • BEST CAR EVER - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Very feminine car, but very sporty. The best new car for woman since the volkswagon beetle. Its so nice to drive, and very comfotable. All friends want one.

  • Mechanically substandard - 2003 Jeep Liberty

Hello All, This is one of many new cars I have bought and it is the worst one mechanically. The engine makes rattling noises, the front seats have been stained by water, the rear right brake drags, the clutch / drivetrain makes a bad clunking noise, it idles rough, and a myriad of other smaller problems. Some of the problems are intermittent which makes it even more difficult to get fixed. I would not recommend this car to anyone. Save yourself problems and buy something else. I hope I can invoke the NY "lemon law" and get rid of this car.

  • My 2nd Jeep Product - 2010 Jeep Liberty

I traded my 1999 Cherokee 4x4 Sport for the 2010 Liberty 4x4 Sport. I like the looks of this vehicle. So far so good. Have a small water leak in the rear thats annoying and hopefully will have that corrected soon. Vehicle feels solid on the road. I am happy with the Liberty.

This is my second Jeep Liberty and I love it. Its sporty, rugged, loads of fun and has POWER! Forget those wimpy car like SUVs, this Jeep is great. I would buy again. Oh, and you cant beat the price loaded.

I drive this as a company car. It has got to be one of the worst decisions my employer has made. The ride is harsh. The interior is out of the 80s with hard plastic. The transmission seems to be locked into the motor creating a car that wont really coast. It almost seems to be like a 5 speed manual transmission that you can never get out of fourth. The footwell design is horrible and not suited for long excursions. You have to have your foot turned outward to press the gas. There is not space beside the gas pedal on the right side. Really weird and not thought out at all. The worst part right now is that the car will not cool itself within 15 minutes of driving if parked outside.

Great handling, comfortable seats. Good gas mileage for the gutsy-performing V-6 Turning diameter is great and in 4- wheel drive will go almost anywhere.

Great ride... very glad I decided to buy it. Handles great in snow and rain!!! Fun to drive long distances. Plenty of room and has great pick up.

  • I ROLLED!!! Be careful. - 2002 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Am very sad - loved my Liberty, but at 3800 miles was hit by an Explorer in the rear quarter panel and I flipped on my side!! We were both going only maybe 25 mph - I was swerving to avoid, but dont think it should have flipped. Only had it 3 months - Jeep was totalled, now am debating buying another for safety reasons. Gas mileage sucked, which I did expect (but didnt have to like!). I know I can drive it w/out rolling it - the other drivers are the problem for me.
