Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

Actually I rateing our 2003 model. Almost 50000 miles w/o any problems. Although gas mileage isnt as high as wed like, buts its a real jeep off road and still fun to drive on the pavement.

I own a loaded Jeep Renegade now one year old. My family loves this Jeep although we dont care for filling up at the gas pumps. A few squeaks and rust spots on the wheels. Truly love this vehicle except for a few minor things.

This is our 2nd Jeep, unfortunately our last Jeep was totaled so this was a replacement, and i love it, the door panel is a little sub-par, but it is a champ in the snow! The tight steering is also a plus. I have never taken it off road, but I love the safety of an SUV. The only problem is there is a low tire warning and there arent any low tires, there may be a problem with the computer. I love the seat cloth, its not like your typical crappy velvet, it is stain resistant, so cloth seats is not a big deal anymore!

  • LOOKS GREAT -- SPUNKY DRIVING CAR - 2005 Jeep Liberty

This is second Jeep Liberty Limited for me; first was 2002 model. This 2005 model is 4 times better. Got the ABS as well as the chrome wheels. Since it is black, looks greater as has the chrome grill and rack on top. Added chrome step bars and gets lots of looks and questions on it. This model gets better gas mileage than the 2002 model. Wife likes to drive and ride in this one more than her Cadillac.

I have owned my Liberty for almost 2 years now. As far as reliability, its been a great SUV. I have had two of my window regulators replaced (no cost to me). And have noticed how easy the interior is to stain. Not my favorite vehicle Ive ever owned, but a decent one.

  • 15 MPG - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Great torque, fun to drive, BADLY put together, Horrible dealerships and awful service, 15 mpg, engine mount design causes really bad huge vibration at temps below twenty degrees below zero. Warranty is meaningless. FIFTEEN MPG. Horrible, horrible - run screaming into the night and buy a Toyota.

  • AWESOME SUV! - 2005 Jeep Liberty

We purchased a 2005 Jeep Liberty just two months ago after researching SUVs. Living in SoCal, with an active lifestyle, we wanted agility, durability, and room for our family of four. We just hated those gigantic SUVs that bully people on the highways and are used as status symbols. The Jeep Liberty was the perfect fit for us. It is agile and sturdy and loads of fun. We do not mind sitting in SoCal traffic in our happy blue Jeep. It is not a cookie cutter behemoth SUV. If you are looking to please yourself and your wallet as opposed to spending an extra $20,000-$40,000 more to impress your neighbors and co-workers,this is the SUV to purchase.Easy on gas, despite the article. I am in LOVE!
