Model Overview:

Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.

Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

i bought my Jeep Liberty used with 12,000 miles on it. It has been the best car ever. The only problem I had with it (which really is very minor) is that the steering wheel was peeling a little, so I took it to the dealership and they replaced it, no questions asked. There was a campaign on it related to the ball-joints; Im not sure what that was about, I never had any trouble. Ive got a little over 60K miles on it now, and were still going strong. There have been some squeaky noises from the front suspension, but no major problems. Love it!

I love, love, love my Jeep! I have traveled across the country in it several times. I have gone skiing in the mountains, camped in some rugged terrain in the desert and I live at the beach. Speaking of which, parked outside by the ocean for 7 years and she is rust free!! She still looks new inside and out. Paint and interior have held up, as the mechanics. I am meticulous about regular maintenance, changing the tires, etc. and she hums! This car has simply been terrific. 117,500 miles and going strong!! :)

People say they used to drive a crossover and dont like the Liberty ride. The first thing to know is that the Liberty is a real Jeep. It will not ride like a car based crossover. That said, it actually does pretty darn good on regular roads. Our Liberty has 90k miles and the drive train has been solid. No squeaks or rattles. Overall our Jeep has been reliable. Weve owned Hondas and other brands so being objective here. Items that will likely be a problem sooner or later on the Liberty include automatic climate controller, trans cooler, and totally integrated power module (when this goes bad the car seems haunted). Wife loves driving the Liberty year round. We would buy another one.

I purchased the car new 4 years ago, theres less than 60k miles. I have replaced 4 window regulators and motors, and now 3 more broke. Thats an average of 1 every 6 months. The electrical system constantly shorts out and of course nothing is under warranty. The dealership wont stand behind their product, nor will the manufacturer. I will never buy another vehicle made by this manufacturer!

What an amazing vehicle this is. I purchased it used from the original owner and have not put a great deal of miles on it (so I have yet to see long term reliability). This is a true SUV with luxury appointments for interior comfort. It motivated a cross country power on the freeway and capable for trip and did not disappoint. Great the off road excursion along the way.

Bought the Liberty due to driving 36k miles a year and half of them in inclement weather. This Jeep rocks! It is awesome in the snow and ice and no.... there is not a slide factor! Beefy, rugged and so beautiful. Im a Liberty girl for life!

i love my jeep. this is the 2nd jeep i have had and i will not change for anything else. i driver a jeep liberty and i get my compliments on it every time i drive it. it has a bomb stereo system and the heated seats and leather interior are definitely a plus in the winter months. one of my co-workers liked my liberty so much he now drives one himself. i get 19 miles per gallon and that is the only thing that i would like changed. i can go anywhere with my 4 wheel drive and believe me we do! i had a jeep cherokee laredo before and sold it to my daughter and she still drives it everywhere.

We bought this new in 2002. In six years, the only two items that have failed are the A/C compressor ($1100) and a battery. Not bad considering we do quite a bit of off-roading, and tow a 1000 pound pop-up camper. The Liberty is easy to drive, easy to park, looks good, and is great off- road. The mileage is only about 18 around town, but if you want 3 more miles per gallon you should consider one of those cute little "SUVs" that are built on a Toyota Corolla chassis. Ive seen those get stuck in a gravel driveway. The Liberty is the real thing off road, but does just as well in a Wal-mart parking lot (more dangerous than the Kalahari, by far).

As a former owner of a Grand Charokee, I was drawn to the new Jeep Liberty. So I bought one and love it! Its the best car Ive ever owned. Its a blast to drive, its got great pick-up-and-go, and it handles like a dream. Its rugged and comfortable. And best of all... its AFFORDABLE!

The reason I wanted a Jeep Liberty was for more space. Ive always wanted a Red Vehicle and the little Liberty came out and I knew I wanted one. They have lots of extra space and are very comfortable. My grandkids think its great also. I just got it for my Christmas gift. I have had no trouble with it.
