Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.
Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

By cpjr - December 13 - 10:00 amHAVE HAD MANY CARS/TRUCKS OVER THE LAST 27 YEARS OF DRIVING. THIS COMES CLOSE TO BEING THE FAVORITE VEHICLE FOR ME. IT DOES EVERYTHING VERY WELL, WELL MADE, DURABLE. VERY COMFORTABLE, ALL CREATURE COMFORTS AS NEEDED. IN 10 MONTHS OF DRIVING I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS, OTHER THAN FUEL MILEAGE. ON HIGHWAY I GOT 20MPG ONCE. TYPICAL HIGHWAY AVERAGE FUEL MILEAGE IS 18-19MPG.

Lemon - 2010 Jeep Liberty
By firstb - December 11 - 10:00 amBought the Liberty, in Sept and its been in the shop 8 times since then. The speed sensors were replaced, gauge cluster, both sets of keys and key fobs. The the alarm keeps going off because the key fobs dont work, the eco light is off and wont come back on, the mileage wont read on the gauge cluster it just says no fuse, the abs, traction control and service engine light keeps coming on still. This is my 3rd Liberty never had a problem before, but come on this one has 2100 miles (most of it from driving from MI to NC 1,109 miles)on it and Chrysler has done nothing to make it better, not even a loaner car they just tell me to bring it to my local dealership. So buyer beware of the Lemon!

Awesome Auto - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By snowbelter - December 7 - 2:00 amI have the Columbia edition which looks as rugged as a renegade (without the cheese) but is equipped more like a limited, & I have to say I think its an exceptional value. Ride, performance, handling & styling are all first class & the build quality is markedly superior to some previous Jeep offerings. The only real flaw is the gas mileage - but hey, keeps me inside my lease mileage right? Overall, I tried out the main competitors and for me this is by far the finest combination of price and capability in the price range.

By PaulJ778 - December 6 - 10:00 amThis is first jeep that i have owned. It is very fun to drive. Gas mileage is not the greatest, but everything else makes up for it. I wish there was a light or symbol for the sun roof as i have forgoten and left it open. Also they do not make front mud flaps for the Renegade with rock guards.

By DrTaylor01 - December 5 - 10:00 amI traded in my Grand Cherokee for the Jeep Liberty and absolutely love the difference. I find the Liberty much more fun to drive and appreciate the increased traction of the 4X4. The Liberty is zippy and has appropriate towing capabilities. I love the Liberty!

By Buster Bailey - December 2 - 10:00 amThe Liberty Renegade is extremely rugged. It has a sporty feel with quick handling and response. The styling is cool and turns a lot of heads. The interior is roomy and very comfortable. The instrumentation is well placed and functional.
