Overview & Reviews
Sold from 2002-'12, the Jeep Liberty was the successor to one of America's original compact SUVs, the Cherokee (which returned in 2014). True to its tough, capable Jeep lineage, the Liberty has considerable off-road capability, thanks to steep approach and departure angles and exceptional suspension travel and articulation. The Liberty was also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds, a robust figure for its class. These are qualities not found in most other small utility vehicles from this time period, which saw the rise of crossover SUVs optimized for the suburban lifestyle.
Demerits for the Jeep Liberty include a weak engine lineup, with sluggish acceleration and dismal fuel economy from both the four-cylinder and V6 engines offered over the years (the first generation's briefly optional diesel engine is impressively fuel-efficient, however). Interior quality and comfort are also lacking, and by today's standards, the Liberty's general lack of refinement leaves much to be desired.

Have Fun - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Mac - February 10 - 2:40 amI have put on more than 113,000 miles in the 2.5 years I have had my Liberty. The only thing I have had to do is the standard oil changes and new tires. My Liberty is still tight all around and everything still feels new. I cant believe it myself. I will definitely get another Liberty after this one.

Amazing in every way!! - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By colorado1974 - February 10 - 2:00 amThe build quality rivals that of Acura. The looks are better than the rest, plus I had it through 3 feet of water and not one drop leaked inside. I get 23 mpg on the highway at 70mph and really couldnt be happier. No wonder this was the number one seller last year.

Drive=Love - 2003 Jeep Liberty
By [Jon] - February 5 - 10:00 amHands down the best Small Ute out there. It may not have good on-road manners to match that of its competitors, but it shines once the paved road ends. It also has the biggest engine out of all its competitors, and can actually TOW up to 5000 lbs. The Exterior styling is a bit on the cute side, but it is unique, and classic at the same time. The interior look is hands down THE best out of all its competitors. Space is a bit on the tight side, but if you are creative enough, you can fit it. I just love driving this thing, on and off road.

Jeep Liberty CRD - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By John - February 3 - 4:50 pmIve only got 1000 miles on my CRD but know its very solid and rattle free. I also love the ride -- firm; feels more like a Lexus 300 to me. I had an Escape and it was "tinny" by comparison. The Liberty quality is much better than the Escape. Turning radius is unbelievable! My diesel mileage to and from work (mixed highway and town) is 23 mpg. Looking forward to road trip this month.

solid, reliable, fun! - 2002 Jeep Liberty
By Jeff - February 1 - 12:03 amI feel much safer in my Liberty than I did in my 3 previous Honda Accords. My Liberty feels solid and sturdy. I did replace the original tires after 15K miles because of sliding on wet roads and I am on my third set of brake pads BUT that is to be expected from a 4000 lb. vehicle. Other than that, no problems. After trading vehicles every three years in the past I have vowed to keep my Liberty for eight years. After a good washing it still looks brand new. My Liberty survived a fierce hail storm. I expected the windshield to be shattered but, no damage. Days later I heard advertisements for "damage and dent sales" at many local dealerships. So far Im quite impressed!

Its a JEEP! - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By Myke Tripp - January 24 - 1:50 pmIve owned my Liberty for almost a year. Ive towed a U-Haul trailer to Texas and it had awesome control. Granted, better fuel economy would be nice but Its a Jeep! If I were buying for mileage I would have looked for 26+ but Ill settle for 18-22. It climbs off road terrain like a goat, especially in low 4! So far, I havent had any issues and I keep up on my maintenance. On the Hwy you have to put your foot into it to accelerate to pass, but thats only when Im trying to prove something. All my friends like it but most importantly I do too!

Love it! - 2006 Jeep Liberty
By Acadia - January 22 - 1:03 pmI was a bit nervous going from a 2003 Jetta wagon that practically drove itself, to an SUV, but absolutely love my new Liberty. After a month of driving Im getting 20 MPG and love the visibility of being higher up. The Liberty handles very well, has a very small turning radius and excellent power. Ride is a bit bumpier than the Jetta, but I would expect that from an SUV. Seats are comfortable, it corners well, seems quite stable, and handling is very responsive. Overall, Im extremely happy with my Liberty.

Bailey Jeep Liberty - 2004 Jeep Liberty
By Green Eyes - January 18 - 2:00 amI have had my Jeep Liberty for two weeks and I love it. I had a Wrangler and loved that, too, but I feel safer in the Liberty since it feels stronger and heavier. The interior is very comfortable and the exterior still maintains a jeep look. I would suggest an interior button or switch for the rear window so I would not have to rely on the remote control.

Jeep Liberty - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Liberty - January 12 - 1:30 amWhen I first bought my Liberty I loved it, or so I thought. In the year that I have had it I feel unsafe in it at times. I do not speed, I do the speed limits as recommended however there are times when it feels like it could just roll over. Almost as if it were top heavy. The gas mileage is very bad. Yes I do drive 80 miles a day and of course when I bought it the gas prices were not so high. I have to continue to keep the Jeep or I would take a bath in the trade in since I have two more years to pay it off. I like the style on the outside however on the inside there are not many compartments with mine. I will never go with another Liberty again or recommend it to anyone.
