This Year's Model Updates:

All 2004 Jeep Libertys now feature a passenger-side grab handle and a power accessory delay feature, while Renegade models get additional rock rail protection and black accent body side moldings. New options include UConnect, Chrysler's hands-free in-vehicle communication system, a tire-pressure monitoring system and a cargo organizer. Safety is enhanced thanks to a system that unlocks doors, illuminates interior courtesy lights and shuts off the fuel pump after airbag deployment. A new trim -- the Jeep Liberty Columbia Edition -- has been introduced, offering 16-inch graphite-painted aluminum wheels; graphite-painted fascias and body moldings; body-colored fender flares; a sun roof; fog lamps; and Columbia badging.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

Nice little car...Jeep seems to be a good value for the money. Been back because of some bad engineering...other than that no complaints.

  • This Jeep looks timid, but its not - 2004 Jeep Liberty

Just bought my 2004 Liberty and I can say I am not disappointed. My wife drives a Ford Expedition and the Liberty looks like it could fit in the back seat. However, the interior is bigger that I imagined. I am 65" and weigh 260 lbs and I have plenty of room and power with this new SUV as any of the others that I test drove.

  • My First SUV! - 2004 Jeep Liberty

Always being a "small car" person, I was really nervous about buying a SUV because they all seemed to be way too much vehicle to handle. But not the case with my Liberty.. it is roomy and comfortable and drives like a limousine! My first, but definitely not, my last Jeep Liberty. I also get many compliments on how cute it is (I have the Sport model), which makes me feel even better when Im out on the roads competing with all the much higher priced, but not better-looking or better-riding SUVs.

The rear hatch latch had to be repaired 3 separate time. Now the A/C compressor clutch has gone out after only 40,000 miles. After markets dont even carry the part because they said it should not have failed already. Jeep customer service has been no help in either case. I wont buy another DaimlerChrysler product based on how they treat their customers. Two wheel drive in the snow is terrible. The windows make an awful noise when all are down, it sounds like a helicopter inside the Jeep. The luggage rack makes a whistling sound when crossbars are on. Exterior is a poor design and interior does not have enough room.

  • Shifty Transmission 04 Liberty - 2004 Jeep Liberty

Transmission always thumped shifting from 1st to 2nd. At 29,000 transmission failed and had to be replaced. Dealer support was great. At 30,000 the brakes are making noises. Transmission is starting to thump from 1st to 2nd again.

I bought my jeep a week ago and really like it! Its fun to drive...feels more like a car than an SUV. The ride is smooth and it handles well.

  • Jeep Liberty Columbia Edition - 2004 Jeep Liberty

This vehicle is a nice combination of jeep ruggedness and stylish every day drivability. The 3.7L V6 adequately powers this rugged little SUV. Handling is a little rough around the edges, like any SUV. What it lacks in car like handling, the liberty makes up in all weather, off road capability. The part time 4WD easily handled a recent snowstorm, no doubt off roading would be a joy. The sun roof, custom wheels, speed control, chrome interior accents, two tone seats, and Columbia badging add a unique touch to my Liberty. Outside, the graphite bumpers combined with body colored wheel wells make my Columbia Edition different from Sports, and Limiteds.

The only maintenance needed so far has been a brake job. It is a comfortalble ride for a tough little car.

We bought our Libert in May of 2004. After 5 years and 93000 Miles. Its safe to say this may be the most dependable and solid vehicle I have ever owned. And I have had quite a few. It is great on and off road, currently have a 2" Body Lift on it with 30" BFG ATs on it. But I did get about 85000 miles out of the original Goodyears and they still had good tread left on them. Honestly dont have any complaints about this vehicle, fun to drive, looks great, easy to maintain, nice interior features such as the window controls, door handles. Actually continues to get better fuel mileage - Currently 18.5 mpg. Definitely made me a Jeep Person.

  • Its a JEEP! - 2004 Jeep Liberty

Ive always wanted a Jeep and this has not disappointed. I bought used with 32,000 miles on it. Ive had the vehicle for 6 months now and it is excellent in the snow. Its comfortable and tall, but not too narrow of a wheelbase. The only drawback is gas mileage, but its a real suv not, a fwd wannabe. The 4wd is amazing. This is the 2nd 4wd vehicle I have owned and its excellent
